2002 Maxima or I35??

I can't decide on a car. I found a way to get lease returns straight from the auction. I can get a fully loaded Maxima SE for around $15,500 and a I35 for a grand more than that. I prefer the shape of the Maxima but I can't decide here.

If it was Honda, i'd definitely opt of the Acura (prestige version). With Nissan and Infiniti I really don't know. I'm pretty cheap and i want a Maxima like car, I can even get the 2001 GLE with around the same miles as the other cars (35,000) for about 14K.. With the 2001 GLE your choices of colors are always better (i want grey exterior with black interior), with the 2002, it's a sure thing that I'll get tan interior.

You Maxima drivers, what would you do?

what are the years, miles and conditions of each cars?
which one has more options?

i'd always go for the luxury variant, in this case, the I35.

Maxima. You'll get more for your money in terms of condition and low miles. Course, if both of those cars have same miles and similar options the I35 will probably hold resale a little higher.

2002 Nissan Maxima SE no leather 36,000 miles --> $14,300

2002 Infinity I35 36,000 miles --> $16,500

2001 Nissan Maxima GLE 40,000 miles --> $14,000

2002 Nissan Maxima GLE 30,000 miles --> $16,500

why? is the price good? Does the 6 speed come with LSD as standard?

I don't think many people lease 6 speeds but hey, if you want to come down to Kansas City, i'm sure i could hook you with this guy with the dealers license.

I know a guy with dealers license too. I might pick up another car.
He charges $100 to take you to auction only if you buy a car.

Yeah those are good prices. Best I've seen locally was an 02 6 speed for $16,900. Not sure about LSD but I would assume so. If somebody could hook me up with an 02 6 speed now for $15k I think I'd have to buy it :)

Maximas are merely ok cars. I still maintain the Camry to be superior, though somewhat more boring in terms of the driving experience.

However, given the choices presented, I35 would be the better buy. Resale value is better, warranty is longer, etc.

Camry is boooring. Great car, but inferior to Maxima unless you only care about cushy ride. Used Maximas are not merely OK, for the money they are great. Lower resale means great deal for you.

I'll be going to the auction on the 16th to place a bid. I'll let you know.

Now i need to find a loan.. Darn it.. another payment.

Anybody want to buy a 1996 Honda Accord EX Coupe with 122K miles on it? $4,500 to take it off my hands

It depends on priorities. Maxima makes a better used car buy because the quality is near as good and the resale on nissans is poor, so you get a lot of car for the money. And your "somewhat more boring" is an underexageration. Frankly put camrys are slow old grandma's cars. Maxima hasn't made a car with less than 190 horsepower in 9 years, and yet until recently camry was still crapping out cars no faster than my 93 sentra. You can buy faster ones now (still slower than a maxima), but they're gonna cost you.

If buying new the camry offers better resale and quality (and less performance). If buying used the nissan offers not terribly less quality at a grossly reduced price.

Don't get the SE with cloth. The leather interior in those cars is really, REALLY nice and worth paying extra for. I'd go for the I35 or one of the GLEs.

Oh yeah, and the Camry is an excellent family car but it's nowhere near as much fun as the Max.

screw resale values. Nissans have quality and they don't look like a brick on the road. The hondas and camrys don't look too good, if i can afford a Lexus or an Acura i'd get it, but my (future) Maxima will kick their asses.

The velour cloth upholstery really sucks and i don't want to get aftermarket leather.. I'm trying to get a GLE because of the softer ride but if i can't get one, i'll go with an SE with leather..

Don't need to convince me !!!

I have cloth in mine. I believe that the SE (maybe GLE too?) Has better than the GXE, but the cloth in mine is really nice. I would obviously prefer leather, but on the plus side I've yet to behold an older car with leather in great condition (I think it requires a lot of maintenance), and cloth will hold up almost forever.

I had a 2000 SE with the grey leather - wonderful, fast, comfortable, nice-handling car. The ride wasn't bad at all, but I think you'll be thrilled with either one. I wish I still had mine.
