I'd go to Edmunds.com and KBB.com and figure out what a good price is, that's what I'd do.

i believe i could fairly easily get 2k-2500 for the focus private sale.

the ad says below kbb btw, but when i called for the price 15.9 is what they gave me.they are a reputable new/used subaru dealership.

dont trade your car. you will lose your rear end. sell it outright. you will get more out of it. it may take ya a little bit more time, but you always lose with a trade. then you are going to lose on buying the car. its the vehicle gambit. its bullsh1t. once you sell your car, look for a wrx. dont waste your time on a ts or a rs.
 

I was shopping for used Subarus in 2003, all of the used prices were within 70% of the new price.

I'm guessing you won't get it for less than 14K from a dealer. One of the best dealerships in NY was selling 1999 and 2000 outback sports with 40-50K miles on them for 10-13K and they couldn't keep them on the lot.
