Us American's like to have our legs stright sometimes, if I have my knee's bent for over 30 minutes I go nuts and kill the next Euro guy in sight ;)

Serious though, I do like to be able to move my legs around a lot, it's just not in me to have my legs stationary for a long time.

Jetta/Golf/Bug/TT/Cabrio - one platform

A4/Passat - another platform

I believe the A6(and allroad) have their own platform, as does the A8/VW Phaeton.

anyhow, i have to put the seat all the way back in the jetta because i have long legs, else i bump the steering wheel all the time. theres not much room back there when its like that. a proper tilt feature on the steering wheel would fix that, but like japanese cars the wheel really only tilts down.

The Jetta/TT/Golf/Beetle/A3 share a platform
The Passat/A4/A6 share a platform

Although I'm not sure if the CURRENT A4 shares the older platform of the A6 and Passat...I think the current A4 has a new platform which will be used on the next gen A6.

Sorry, I wouldn'y be cought dea in one of those.

1) exterior fugly.

2) unless they fixed the headroom, it sucks.

3) legroom (see headroom)

4) interior not my style.

5) not as reliable as people think

Notice all of the above is my opinion, and not matter how fukked anyone thinks it is, you will not change it.

Dissin' SUVs because of this car? People also buy SUVs because of looks (shape/height/ground clearance).

What I meant is given it's price and it's capabilities, I'd have a hard time justifying an SUV over this car considering I don't off-road and there isn't any foul weather here in NC.

But, I have noticed that americans seem to require humungous cars for some reason. Why that is, I have no idea.

Because we feel differently about our cars than you Euros do: We love them, and love to spend time in them.

While you might be able to "fit" into my back seat, you will not be comfortable back there. I'm nearly 3 inches shorter than you and my head hits the headliner of my car when I'm in the back seat. I guarantee you will not be sitting comfortably back there, servicable, yes, comfortable, no. It's so tight back there the inside of the door panels to my back seat are scuffed because there is no possible way to remove your feet from the seating position to exit the vehicle without hitting the door.

Huh? And Europeans do not? I'm sorry but you are mistaken. Well, we don't use our cars to go EVERYWHERE, but we can get pretty passionate about 'em. And, after all, best cars in the world are made in Europe ;).

Comfortable in my book = I can spend prolonged time in there with no ill-effects. If it starts to feel awkward after a while, then it not obviously comfortable. "Comfortable" does not mean I can lay back and put my feet up (so to speak). I have no problems being a passenger in a smaller car

I love to spend time in my car too. I think it's just that Europeans spend less time in their cars than Americans do. I am 6'2 and drive a Ford Focus and regularly have three people all over 6' in the back of my car though. Most of the journeys are less than 30 minutes though.
The longest time I have ever spent in my car on a single trip is 3 hours and then I drove half the length of the country.

If you live in a country as big and spaced out as the USA is you will spend more time in your car and I can see that you would want something larger and more comfortable. Different cars for different markets I guess.

Sorry, forgot to put a ";)" after my first sentence, I was only kidding about that. LOL

Let me ask you a question: If I'm 3 inches shorter than you, and my head hits the headliner so that I have to "slouch" when sitting back there, and I almost tear cartilage in my knees trying to get out of my car, do you think that you would find it more comforatble in my back seat than I do? I don't ask for much, just a "normal" seating position with a little wiggle room.

Well, I haven't sat in S4, but (like I said) I have sat in II and III Model VW Golfs, and they are both smaller (overall) than S4 is. In the II Model my hair did touch the ceiling occasionally, but it didn't really bother me (in normal conditions it didn't touch the ceiling, maybe in bumbs and such).

Interesting facts form carpoint.com:

Golf: 88.0 cu.ft total passenger room, 33.5" leg room; 37.4" head room
S4: 87.9 cu.ft total passenger room, 33.4" leg room; 36.8" head room

It appears that while my car is larger on the outside than the Golf, it's smaller on the inside.

Golf has a VERY high roofline helping it's overall cargo space.
