After people's opinions on this one...

I'm primarily a gamer with a new PC and ATI X800 graphics card, but I'm without a monitor. I've seen my friend's Dell 2001fp: it's nice and large, and the colours on it are gorgeous - Half Life 2 and WoW both stand out as looking incredibly vivid. Also, ghosting doesn't really seem to stand out compared to CRTs I've used, though it is noticeable if you look for it. I'm very tempted to pick one of these up, were it not that I am being held back by...

The Hyundai L90D+, which is currently being pushed as the gamer's choice or so it would seem. The contrast ratio, brightness and response times are all measurably better than the Dell's. The top resolution is lower, but this might be a good thing as when newer games come out I'm thinking I might find 1600x1200 is too much for my card? However, I haven't seen this screen in the flesh. I'm really interested in what the image sharpness and colour reproduction is like. Has anybody seen both the Dell and the Hyundai? How do they compare? I know that they're both based on seperate TFT screen types, but unsure which results in the better IQ in games :p

I'm hoping to order my screen over the next day or two, so any opinions would be REALLY appreciated!

Cheers! :)

I got a a L90D+ for my parents and so far I'm not impressed like I thought I would be. I'm gonna to change out the video card to a DVI output geforce 4 and it should make a nice difference I hope.

Get the L90D+, save some money. It performs well and games look absolutely great.

When I got my L90D+ I moved down from a 1600x1200 resolution, I didn't like it at first but the performance in games makes up for it. If there was an updated 2001fp with a faster response time and a higher contrast ratio, it might be worth it for me to spend that much on a monitor, but for now I settled with the L90D+'s only two weaknesses (resolution and viewing angles) as it shines in every other category and doesn't break the bank as far as LCDs go.

If the two were priced the same (at < $400) it might be a different question, because the 1600x1200 resolution is really nice.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that gaming on anything OTHER than a straight 4x3 display is asking for trouble.

17-19" LCD's are "taller" than CRT's or 15 and 20" LCD's with 4x3 resolutions. This means games, which don't CARE about the physical aspect ratio of your monitor, look slightly stretched out vertically. The only way to avoid that is to disable scaling, and play at 1280x960, with slight "letterboxing" on your tall display.

The same applies for widescreen gaming. Most games don't support widescreens, and you either end up with vertical pillar bars or a stretched display.
