Playing off the other thread title since my question is similiar. My lease on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is up soon and id like to get back to not having a car payment. I have about $5000 i can drop into a used car, so i been browsing craigslist here and there and came across this.

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/4411786313.html

Only has 85k miles on it, what looks to be new tires bascially and is asking $3900 which id attempt to get for less of course. But is there anything inherantly wrong with the Troopers that i should shy away from it? My wife has a Subaru and the dealer we take it to at the time was also an Isuzu dealer when they were around and still retain 1 full time Isuzu mechanic on staff.

Im tempted to check it out and take it in for an inspection and look over and maybe offer like $3500 or maybe even a tad less.

Unless you guys talk me out of it :)

The MPGs are not an issue as my Jeep only averages like 16 and my commute isnt very far to work.

Looks ok but that motor does have a timing belt so its past due, age, if it has not been done.
Shares some parts with Honda if I remember correct.

We use to own a 99 Rodeo of that vintage and we STILL have the first year Axiom (02 in the immediately family. )

I'm familiar with the 3.2 and the 3.5 which is used in that Trooper.

Summary - They were great trucks that will last a long time BUT they require extra care. They need a lot of monitoring by the owner as they are notorious for burning oil. You need to check the oil religiously (every other tank fillup). You need to change the PCV valve on a regular basis.

They are old school trucks and harken back to when people purchased trucks (before we started making up BS terms like "SUV") to go off road. They drive like trucks. Great visibility. Ok get up and go.
Just got watch the oil usage

No
Honda worked out an agreement to sell rebadge Isuzu's because they wanted to cash in on the SUV craze of the 90's.
Only Honda parts are the Honda emblems

One thing to keep in mind is that some parts can be a pain to get a hold of. Body, glass and trim mainly.

Episode of parking wars Philly.

Philly tows Honda Passport.

Owner comes to get it.

Philly can't find it. They called it an Isuzu Rodeo when they did the paperwork.
Spent all day walking past it looking for an Isuzu...checking the computer, claiming
they didn't tow a Honda...

Hilarious argument ensues when they figure it out and the owner tells them it's a Honda...

Took them many hours to give the guy his Honda back, and it was right there in plain view in the lot.

Hi guys. I know this is an old thread, but looking for Isuzu Trooper advice. Were all 1999 Isuzu Troopers 50-state emissions compliant, or are there special ones built specifically for California? I live in Cali, and looking to buy one. But I can’t find anything online to answer this question. I appreciate your help!

Welcome to the forums Chiliking. This thread, as you stated yourself, is 4 years old and the title does not represent the year of vehicle you are inquiring about. I have locked this thread, but please feel free to start a new one with a relevant title to information you seek.

Thank you,

~DaTT
