2001 Hyundai is falling apart..... right after warranty expired...

Fiancee has a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon... Its been great for her since she got it 5 years ago, not really any problems at all.

Well, her warranty ran up about 3 months ago or so.... And since then, the car has started to fall apart.

Two weeks ago, driver side power window broke. (both the regulator/motor needed to be replaced)
This week, drivers seat stopped moving, radio died, passenger side power mirror broke, and the passenger door handle is coming off...

WTF?

Were you the one who determined those were the issues or was it a mechanic? I've seen many cases where all the issue was that a fuse needed to be replaced but they'll tell you that the entire motor/regulator/blahblahblah needs to be changed and so they'll just go ahead and charge you for it while all they do is swap out the fuse.

The power window problem was diagnosed by the dealer. The seat just won't move. The radio has an error when playing any cd. As for the power mirror, just happened today, havent had the chance to diagnose/research yet.

u didnt think the 5 year warranty was too good to be true?

nah i like the tiburon

5 years without a problem isnt too bad considering my focus is 4 years old and ive had to get stuff fixed (only owned it 3-4months too)

things wear out its as simple as that.

Sorry to hear it's having so many problems but I do recall reading that the Tiburon's are known for having lots of electrical problems. That was one of the reasons I went with an Elantra.

It's your own fault for letting the Warranty Expire!! When it expires the Radio link to Seoul is cut and the nanobots that kept it working shutdown!! :eek:

most hyundais have a 6/60000 bumper to bumper and 10/100000 powertrain.

At least our 01 santa fe does.

We've owned both a 2001 Sonata and a 1999 or 2000 Elantra.

We still have the Elantra, mainly because we won't get more than $500-1000 for a trade-in with it.

The Sonata we unloaded after less than a year of having it.

With the Sonata, we were actually able to start the car, shut the car off, take the key out, and still use the radio, power windows, power locks, etc. for up to a few minutes after the engine was stopped. Also, if we went over a decent bump (small pothole, etc.) the radio would kick on. Probably capacitors that weren't being discharged... but it was more fun to think the car was possessed.

The Elantra has been a bit more solid, but it is running into transmission / intake manifold problems, and has been for about two years. It still runs alright, but slamming itself from gear to gear isn't the best feeling in the world.

Needless to say, we will never buy another Hyundai.

Hyundais suck. I had an '87 Excel GLS and I always had it in the shop for repairs. I'm surprised they are still in business, actually.

They made pure crap in the 80's. Both my father and brother bought new Stellars back then and both had the same issues with the McPherson struts. $2000 to repair them!!! My brother eventually hit his 3rd deer with the thing and it was luckily a write off. My dads was just driven into the ground then left for dead.

That's actually a feature I think for your car.
Some cars have the feature where you can use the Windows/Sunroof and what not. So I doubt it was some malfunction on Hyundai's part.

Hyundai's have always had this issue.

You must be prepared to deal with these type issues with them.

They would be a good candidate to merge with FORD, Fix Or Repair Daily.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon now and expect to have to fix a lot on it come 2010 even 2009 becuase it was built in 2004.

My 12yr old Camry still runs great! :)

The oil needs to be refilled a quart every 3K miles...

yeah i was going to buy a used hyundai but i still hear and read horror stories about them. I dont think i'll buy a used one ever. I'll either get a used focus (cheaper to fix/fix up) or a new hyundai

You could just change the oil every 3k ;)
