Heat23, I test drove a VP (value package) Saturday, and ALMOST went and signed the line and brought it home this afternoon. Decided to pass, but I'll tell you this... I LOVED the car, and right now, on the VP, there is a special subvented lease deal going on. Honda is offering a REALLY high residual on the car, which makes for some amazingly low payments. Our monthly payments would have been $270 per month. Great deal if you can get one (the VP's are hard to find) and you don't mind leasing.

Oh, and BTW, tat $270/month was with NO MONEY down, not a penny due at signing, no payment for 30 days, and 15,000 miles per year for 39 months. Would have been nice. Good car. Oh, and the car also had the optional side airbags.

NO NO NO it doesn't just have 6 speakers. I remember seeing that, so I know where you saw it. What it says is that it has all the features of the DX, PLUS the following: 2 speakers. So, the DX has 4, and the VP has that PLUS 2. It has 6 speakers in total, and a nice am/fm/tape/cd deck in dash. No, no VTEC. Do you seriously NEED VTEC? Mainly the only thing about it is bragging rights. The engine already has plenty of power. It was pretty damn snappy, as a matter of fact. If I was getting an accord, I would definitely not be getting it for racing or anything, and thus the VTEC would NEVEr be something I would pay any extra for, but that's just me. DEFINITELY it doesn't only have 2 speakers.

I updated my post above yours about the VTEC. Who needs it? Especially when you can just buy a VTEC sticker? :) But seriosuly, it's your car. The acceleration is fine. Hey, it's a honda! But how much acceleration do you need out of a full-sized family sedan? Maybe you should be looking at something a little sportier?

Yes, it does. It has the immobilizer. It's not an alarm, but it's the key-based theft deterrent. It has a little programmable thing int he base of the key which gives the key an electronic "fingerprint" that the car checks. If they key is not a properly-programmed original, the engine will be "immobilized." Can't even be hotwired.

I frankly hated (hated, HATED) my 1998 Accord EX V-6 (the first year of the current generation), which showed very disappointing build quality - I now have real misgivings about the American-built Hondas - and what I considered very poor handling and ride. I found the steering a bit overboosted and VERY slow (the rack must be 5 feet long), with very little steering feel. The car exhibited terrible body roll and nose dive on braking, while still riding surprisingly harshly. Considering the hype the car's front suspension has garnered, I was frankly horrified by its Buick-esque ride and handling. I finally ditched the car when its driver's seat started to self-destruct, with an estimated repair cost of $700 (and no, I am not an especially heavy guy, and the car had ~40K miles).

I ended up replacing it with a loaded Maxima SE, which feels much more substantial and is far more rewarding to drive.

DesignDawg - That 39 month lease with payments of $270 per month and no money down sounds pretty sweet. That's only $10,530 total payments how much is the residual if you decide to buy the car at the end of lease?

What are the differences between the VP and LX models?

I have seen 2001 Honda Accord LX 4 dr AT loss leaders in the Saturday newspaper for around $16,700 which sounds like a good deal? I really wish the Toyota Camry would get a major redesign or something very soon. Otherwise the Accord is looking very tempting.

Actually financing through Honda isn't all that bad. Both my parents and my gf bought one right after Christmas, 2.9% over 3 years. I think it's back up to 3.9% over 3 years now, 4.9% for 4 years which is still better than what you can get at the bank. Deal only good on 4 cylinders, so no V6 but you still can get the EX.

I drive a 96 LX coupe myself. I like the 01 Accord. They both got the LX package. Ride is a lot smoother and quieter than mine. Feels a little heavier and doesn't seem to handle as well, they really loosened up the springs and sacraficed handling for ride quality. Transmission is smooth, feels like it slips a little too much though in order to keep shifting smooth. But for freeway driving, definately no complaints.

The EX is very nice, but if you're getting that might as well go all out and get the leather package while you're at it. Personally I feel the LX interior is good enough for me. And if you can, go for the coupe. My parents got the sedan, it's a nice car but it definately can't compare to my gf's coupe. My parents got their's for $17,200 and my gf paid $17,700 (they both got the side air bags, $200 option).

I just picked up an EX 4dr cloth interior 5spd sedan on Saturday. The 4th new Honda I've owned. You will love the Accord for many reasons.

maybe u should get the camry, i think quieter ride.. remodel makes it look pretty good. The accord sedan is starting to look a bit dated..the coupe is still alright though.

The Accord has fresh (minor) styling for 2001. Not sure what the Camrys look like, but the new accord looks great.
Most of the reviews seem to favor the accord over camry.

<< anyone know when the accord is gonna be re-designed?? >>

Probably soon, Honda always redesigns. Look at the Prelude, they're getting ready to release the 6th gen since 79 :Q
