2001 Honda Accord 4-cyl vibration in steering wheel while braking..

I know that my rotors were previously warped but I had them resurfaced when I bought the car at around 64,000 miles, now the car is at 90,000 miles and I have started to notice a very obvious shaking/vibration of the steering wheel when applying the brakes at high speeds (This is the only time it happens or is noticable...)

Anyone know what the issue could be or what I could have the shop look into the troubleshoot the problem? When the rotors where resurfaced the front brake pads where also changed and car was re-aligned.

@ 66,000 - power steering flush, brake fluid flush, transmission drain & refill
@ 74,000 - induction service
@ 82,000 - brake fluid exchange, replaced timing belt/drive belts/waterpump and seals
@ 84,000 - 4 new tires

oil changes every 3,000 miles give or take....
 
Could be the rotors again. I haven't heard of resurfaced rotors lasting very long. You may also want to look at the front control arm bushings and wheel bearings?
 
In fact, I'd think resurfacing rotors that were warped just sets you up for them warping again, even faster, as the thickness of the rotor isn't even. So it'd be much more prone to warping a second time around. Probably should've just bought new rotors in the first place.
 
Yea, don't resurface wrapped rotors. Replace them. It's been an issue with several Hondas actually. Odyssey for instance is known to have crappy, wrap prone rotors for years.
 
Well thanks a lot for the help guys, any recommendation of a good rotor from pepboys for my vehicle (2001 Honda Accord 4cyl - 2 door coupe)?

Looking back at when I bought the car and had them resurfaced it probably was not a smart move to have them resurfaced but instead I should of just replaced them, the mechanic at the time was not very smart with the foreign cars (plus he recommended resurface since its cheaper then replacement), in fact he put on my brake pads backwards (which I was only later told about by a honda mechanic, they said it won't hurt anything no point in re-positioning them now since they would wear uneven)

Before you go ahead and get PepBoys to replace your rotors (and I believe you have to replace pads at the same time?), ask around among friends/work colleagues for an independent mechanic they'd recommend who can check your car. While all signs point to the rotors, get someone familiar with Honda's to take a look at it.
 
Also, if you're the least bit mechanically inclined, you can install the new pads and rotors yourself in an hour or so (taking it slowly) and it won't cost much (under $100 in parts, under $50 if you get the cheapest RockAuto parts). I also have a 6g Accord and did the rear brakes about 3 weeks ago.

If you'd rather not DIY, it's a simple enough job that any shop should be able to do it pretty inexpensively and quickly.

I Hear that, I was over my friends house helping him do a Toyota Camry brake pads so im sure if i asked him and bought the parts we could take care of the rotors together. Only thing is I am not sure if I would need new brake pads as well I would have to buy them and if upon taking the wheels off saw that they where needed then change them out with the rotors...

I was just thinking that... whether its something I should do at the same time whether the brake pads look worn enough to need replaced or not, if i buy new rotors I do not want to have the old brake pads eating away at them...
 
My 2000 Accord has the same problem, bought it that way a couple months ago. Just ordered some new Raybestos rotors and pads from Rockauto this morning, they already shipped! Gotta love Rockauto!

Plan on replacing them on my holiday between Christmas and New Years.
 
I tend to agree. You need new rotors. If you go to Pepboys or Autozone, just don't buy the very cheapest ones. They will not last as long as the better ones. For my money, the small extra cost is worth not having to redo the job early.
 
Soooo... a little update, better late then never. I went into Napa auto parts and purchased new front rotors & brake pads. Once I went in there the guy went ballistic on me when i mentioned I needed to fix my warped rotors. He started to tell me there is no such thing and refereed to a article very similar to this one...

I knew just from when i drive and the simple mechanics that something was up with the brake system or rotors or something because of how the vibrations only happen at high speeds and rotors, my rotors have already been resurfaced once (at which time i should of just bought new ones but did not) so now i figured its due time to replace anyways. so i did and tada! magically my vibrations went away completely and she doesn't shake no more! 🙂
 
Whether they were truly "warped" or not, they obviously needed to be replaced. Sounds like the writer of that column and your guy at NAPA have sticks up their collective asses about the terminology.

Unless you have high quality rotors to begin with, new ones are so cheap and easy to replace that it just doesn't make sense (to me) to resurface them.
 
I drives the same car too. I have Wearest brand rotors and can't tell any difference. If you know how to do brakes u know how to do rotors.
