Only got 3-4k to spend on a backup car. Seen a 01 Ford Focus SE 2.0 auto for $3500. He will probably work on the price. 82k miles.

Decent backup?

Yeah that is not a bad car but with 3500 I am sure you could do better, I would shoot for a Honda Accord or maybe a Volvo 740. IMO those are some of the most reliable cars out there and safest. 82k is not bad mileage though, the only ford I ever owned was my V6 mustang and it did not have any major problems til around 130k, then the head gasket went and then again at 160k the head gasket went but I was young and that probable boiled down to maintenance..

any Hondas in my area are $6-8k. Unless I go with a very early 90's which is still more reliable I'm sure but don't want anything that old. Haven't seen any Sentras.

I'm a Focus fan, but yeah that'll probably have an SPI motor. Not the best.

I have an 03 focus, got it for 4600 with only 70k miles. It was owned by some guy that didn't give a shit on
how it was taken care of, I fixed most of the wiring job, but overall its a good car, the manual is fun to drive, pretty speedy.
It has the zetec motor, zx3 hatchback...

Ask if the fuel pump has been replaced yet, the ignition key tumbler or the trunk lock have frozen yet, or how many times the heater motor resistor pack has burned out.

The girlfriends 01 has been a hassle to own even though it's been fairly well maintained.

I have a 2001 ZX3, stay away. I would rather have a late 90's used Honda, Camry etc over this any day
