I've always been a big fan of the later years in the last gen 7. It's got that low-slung look to it - i dont know how to describe it, but it looks mean.

I changed the link to a better one of the same year..

So what is a "pimp" car?

Don't say Ferrari.. something affordable.

I thought the 740i was a nice looking car that turned heads..

I can speak from experence, the 740i has a nice ride with plenty of power. The car you linked on ebay is currently listed for $23,000 and that is a bit high for a car that has 69,000 miles on the odometer. A second thing you need to consider is gas is curently $3 per galon and the 740's V8 sucks gas like no tomorrow. A short trip to the grocery store in that 740i will cost you $5 (maybe $6) if you include wear, depriciation, maininence and fuel.

Yeah, that's pretty pimp. Pimp in the way that it's not a great status symbol, but I could definitely see a pimp driving one.

Any major problems? I heard the maintenance on a BMW is going to be costly. Especially for these older cars that need rotors, etc replaced.

Yeah the gas is going to suck :(

hell yes, the E39 5 series is the sexist production sedan to date IMO with the E39 M5 topping that list.

:thumbsup::beer:

The 7 that you found looks nice though.

Nope...not a chance. 540 is a smaller car, usually with a few less bells and whistles. The 7 series is BMW's flagship model. IIRC, there was something like $10,000-15,000 difference between the 5 and 7's back them( depending on options of course) If you're really interested, go here and start doing research:

Good place to see what problems are inherent to that model. Being the last year of the E-38 models, it's considered to be more desirable than earlier years, and should have had most of the "bugs' worked out by then...Good cars. Great riding, great handling, fun to drive. Expensive to maintain. As with any expensive "performance" car, be prepared to spend 10% of it's initial purchase price annualy in maintenance. Depending on how it was taken care of before, that could go up or down for the first couple of years, but s considered to be an accurate figure for these cars. I've driven Bimmers for years, and have owned a couple of 7's, and it is pretty accurate in my experience...

A dealer near us had a late 90s 750il with Protection Package for dirt cheap, but I was too nervous about the cost of breakdowns.
