2000Pro to XP Pro

i am currently running 2000pro and trying to upgrade to XP pro the problem is that after i agree to the EULA it says the computer must be restarted before setup can continue. When i restart and try to install again using autorun i get the same message. Someone told me that i must not tap any buttons while windows restarts or else this will continue looping endlessly however since i am the administrator of my 2000pro account i must type in the password before the machine boots up, i am sure there is a way to by pass this. any help would be appreciated.
