2000 server memory addressing

i was thinking i heard that 2000 server (not advanced) can only address up to 2GB of memory efficiently (it can address more i know but only 2GB efficiently?). has anyone heard the same thing or can confirm or repudiate this? thanks

MS' website states that Win2K3 Web edition is limited to 2G, but Win2K3 Server is limited to 4G. I believe Win2K Server was also 4G, but they don't make it easy to find that information since they want you using Win2K3 now.

For those of us who don't know the URLs off the top of our head, where is that URL linked from? Going to microsoft.com/windows/server redirects you to microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/ but of course microsoft.com/windowsserver2000 isn't valid and I don't see any links mentioning 2000 on the main Windows Server pages.

Um, read the URL I posted above? Windows 2000 is accessed by going to www.microsoft.com/windows2000. The information is found the same way you find it for Windows Server 2003: How to buy -> Choosing the right operating system.

Or you could go to microsoft.com, and type 'windows 2000' in the search field at the upper right. The Windows 2000 homepage is the first result. Imagine that!

Microsoft.com -> Windows -> Other versions -> Windows 2000 -> Product Documentation -> Windows 2000 server -> ??

Or Microsoft.com -> Windows -> Other versions -> Windows 2000 -> how to buy -> choosing the right OS, as noted in my last post.

bwah...?

Listen, you tried to make some snide comment without bothering to see if you were accurate and you got called on it. Let's move on.

I stand by my comment, going to the "Windows Server" page has no links at all to older products and it should.

Which page are you referring to? If you are at the Server 2003 page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/default.mspx), there is a pretty clear link. Windows Family -> Windows 2000.

Also, it may be marketing drivel, but Windows 2000 is not, and never was part of the Windows Server family. It was called Windows 2000 Server, the "Windows Server" brand was only introduced with Server 2003.

That makes less sense to me. I know how to buy it, I go to a store and pick up the box (or order it online). 😛

Wow. You just can't be wrong can you? Guess it isn't in your nature.

One more time: www.microsoft.com -> search at the top right > 'windows 2000' -> first link on the page.

The pop-up dialog doesnt work in other browsers, but if you dont want to search you can also do a:
www.microsoft.com>Windows Server System>Products>Windows 2000 Server (lower on the page under "past products").

Can we please move on?
