2000 Prelude 126k miles..... Not sure if timing belt was done. Car looks to be pretty clean. I can get it for 5900. Should I pass or not? It's a honda, so I would assume it's reliable though it has a lot of miles.

It *should* be pretty solid, provided it was maintained properly. Check for verifiable proof the timing belt was done, and if it's an auto, perhaps have a mechanic you trust check it out. Honda autos are the weak link in an otherwise solid history. The only worry I have when looking at used Hondas is the high % of them driven hard by kids. 126k miles is not really a lot, considering it was probably produced/sold in '99, so that's about 10 years, or about 12k miles / yearly.

Seems ok but nothing to write home about. $5900 will get you something like a 2001-2 maxima (02 had the big HP bump) with less miles than that, I know because I've seen quite a few around recently. No timing belt on the maxima, either 😉

The typical items to check are rubber, fluids and sealant components. Check gaskets, mounts, seals, bushings, strips, hoses, belts and all fluids.

Is the prelude something you were seeking or is this just a compromise to get a car? Like Skoorb was saying, there might be better alternatives for that kind of money.

Preludes are pretty nice, but yeah, good to pass when things can't be verified or seem shady.

I would say don't pay more than $5000 for it. My friend recently sold his 1997 with around the same miles, and the best he could get was $3500 cash. I wouldn't buy this car for more than $4500 (personally) but $5000 is definitely on the high-end for what you are getting.
