my palomino is locked at 12.5 multiplier. so i can only overclock via FSB. i'm hoping to get to 166MHz bus. is this even possible with palomino with a locked multiplier? or does the stability naturally lie in the motherboard and ram? i ordered 2 x Samsung 512MB PC2700 so memory shouldn't be the problem.

maybe i'm dreaming but i would like 12.5x166 = 2075MHz. i think i get very good air cooling since at non OC'ed speeds i get temps of room temp for case and 34/44 degrees for CPU (idle/full load).

should be doable, but you got a pally. get a tbred and dreams of 200fsb are easily achievable

I'm sorry but 12.5x166 will be extremely difficult (unless you go with a supercooling setup). With air-cooling, you'll probably hit 150 or maybe a little higher with a default muplier of 12.5. To take advantage of your new Samsung memory, you should unlock the multiplier and raise the fsb. 10.5x180 will be much better than 12.5x150. And 180 is achievable with a Samsung PC2700. If it was a Tbred, then it would be completely different.

I get horrible results with my 2100xp pally. I can go 12.5x140 somewhat stable. It's ok in most enviroments but dies in prime95 in less then a minute. I also get random crashes. So I keep it at stock. Been thinking about getting a 1700 tbredB. Since my ram and mobo are awesome for OCing.
