The question is can it be done. Abit says this revision doesn't support XP cpus, but I've read elsewhere that flashing the bios to the latest version for rev 1.3 allows you to use a Palomino XP cpu up to 2000+, more if you modify the chip. Is anyone out there running this exact setup? If so, what were your results? I assume the board can be flashed back to one for rev 1.0 if the newer chip doesn't run successfully, right?

I just purchased an Athlon XP 2100+ and have installed it on my Abit KT7A-RAID board. I haven't been successful (so far) in getting it to boot with my CPU FSB/PCI Clock setting set to 133MHz/33MHz however I was able to run it at a variety of speeds using the 100MHz/33MHz setting.

BIOS Revision: A9 (for Non-V1.3 boards)

CPU FSB/PCI Clock: 100MHz/33MHz

The computer will boot but Windows XP will not load above 2000MHz. Seems to run stable at 2000MHz with stock cooling and voltages.

I am now trying to determine if I can run the processor with a 133MHz FSB at it's default speed (1733MHz).

This is a Thoroughbred Revision B (AIUHB) processor. I have flashed the board to the 9R Rev 1.3 BIOS but it didn't make any difference. If you look at the results I listed in my previous post you will see that the multipliers do not match the processor speed. When the FSB is set to 100MHz setting a 7x multiplier for example should result in a processor speed of 700MHz, however in this case the processor is running at 1500MHz equivalent of a 15x multiplier. The problem is that the older KT7A boards are unable to correctly set the multipliers to run the 2100/2200 processors at 133MHz FSB speeds.

I haven't decided yet whether there is enough of a performance difference between a 2100+ at 2000MHz on a 100MHz FSB and a 2100+ at 1733MHz on a 133MHz FSB to warrant making the modifications necessary.
