Valhalla1, you clearly don't know much about cars if you think a race is just about horsepower?. I have beaten v6 camero, geez i dont know how many times in a 1.6L 160hp Civic SiR with just a cold air intake. I mean come on its a 3400lb tank with a 200hp v6? A stang and that racing would be a drivers race, the cars are almost equal. If you think 10Hp just puts you any further ahead you need to do some reading 🙂.

In my opinion the only way to go with those cars is the V8. That is the powerhouse the 6's are not.

If i had my choice it would be neither but thats just due to climate, sitting in 4-5 feet of snow I wouldn't want to drive either car 🙂. It would spend 6 months of its life a year in a garage, not at all worth it. For me it would be an Audi S4, or a Acura CL Type S, if the new imprezza wasn't so darn ugly thats not a bad car either.

I would get the Mustang if it was a GT. If you have the time and patience, there are a lot of upgrade options for the Mustang that can make it very powerful. If it is a 6 cylinder Mustang, get the Camaro. A 6 cylinder Mustang is a joke really. It's for people who want the style, but not the speed and higher price. And don't listen to these guys regarding the automatic. You can always get a shift kit for the automatic that makes it very attractive. My cousin has one on his GT and every time it shifts, the tires chirp. It has definitely helped his acceleration.

The Camaro SS is a very fast car. I like the SVT Mustang better tho.. even though they are not being produced right now.

neither, neither will hold its value, i mean 12k for only 2k miles and 2000??? pick the stang, looks so much better than ugly camaro. camaros look like a sock that got thrown on the ground. speed isnt everything.

Get the Mustang. I have a 2000 Deep Atlantic Blue, and its awesome. I get compliments on the car everywhere I go! It rides smooth, and can kick some camaro butt if it needs too (BTW, a lot of a car's ability has to do with the driver, especially when the horsepower in two cars are very close).

I wouldn't trade my car...well unless I could get a convertible Mustang. Oh, and all you Chev fanatics take note: Ford is beefing up their motors in 2003 or 2004 (can't remember which), and its suppose to put Camaro in its place. BTW, the V6 does out run the V6 camaro. Its the Ford Mustang V8 that is underpowered when it comes to Camaro V8. But that's ok because their are 5 other Mustang's that can take Camaro...Roush Mustang Stage I, II, or III, and the Saleen I or II. The Saleen cruises frm 0-60 in 4.6 secs, with 495 Horsepower. It walks the walk baby!!! 🙂

I use to love the older Camaro's (pretty much all of them), but the new ones are slopes and are so UGLY.

JMHO.😀 😉

did you just say mustang cause its "cooler" looking???? do you buy a car on its looks? If he gets the pos mustang, we're talking V6 here. Now when he pulls up to high school in his "mustang" and we all say "wow, nice looking car" and then we ask him if its a V8 and he says "no".....we all look down on him forever for buying a mustang with a V6. Just cause it "looks cool" doesnt mean that car handles well and has power.

uhh yeah this is getting really rediculous. and I don't appreciate Zuni of all people coming on here and insulting me because of my opinion of cars.

you know what, get the mustang. something like 80% of all V6 mustangs are sold to teenage girls. have fun.

I'm through with this thread. this is b.s. I never said the only important thing is horsepower, but mustangs are DOGS.

and I couldn't care less how many girls you've beaten in their bone stock automatic v6 camaros with your rice bucket, I don't give a flyin' fuc#.

and I wish you lived around here Zuni with your hot-as-sh!t rice "rocket", because Texas is f-body country, and there are plenty of low-11-second Z28's in my town that would rape your car, fuc# its sister and sh!t on its shoes.

Way to go Zuni. You are right: Mustang 190 and Camaro 200, but Mustang's weight is 3064 compared to Camaro's 3306. Like you and I said it all comes down to the driver.

<< Now when he pulls up to high school in his "mustang" and we all say "wow, nice looking car" and then we ask him if its a V8 and he says "no"..... >>

**If you have to ask if the cars a V6 to figure it out then your boys better go perform some research on the cars they race. Hint: there's this little GT symbol on the side of Mustangs, and on the back end of Mustangs that clearly identify it as a V8. And if that doesn't give it away...try the dual exhaust!!! If you are really good (like me) you can tell the difference from hearing the exhaust.

<< If you are really good (like me) you can tell the difference from hearing the exhaust. >>

I heard a Stang 6cyl idling the other day, it sounded like a Taurus at idle😛

I was talking about the difference between a V6 and V8.😉 You can actually add a better exhaust to make a rumbling sound, but it will never be as good as the old 5.0's. Even if you kill the C. Converter it will add sound just not as much as most people like. 😉

I know what you meant, I was just saying that it's pretty easy to tell the v6 and the v8 apart by sound. The 6cyl sounds like a family car at idle (smooth idle), the 8cyl burbles.

<< but mustangs are DOGS >>

I know you don't mean that about my Mustang, do you??? Tell you what, bring your POS on over here and we'll see which car is a DOG. If you, not your friends, can't turn an 11-second timeslip in the quarter don't even apply. You ought to watch yourself before you make generalized statements.

As far as the 6-shooter stock Camaro and Mustang comparisions go the weight difference puts the Mustang ahead, or do you not understand the concept of horsepower vs. weight???

Lay off the crack, save those last few brain cells.....

Lol, I like sacotools comments 🙂

Seriously in 1/4 times its gonna mostly come down to drivers. Go for the camaro because it has a more comfortable interior (especially the seats for me...) and reviews I've seen typically have it out handling the mustang.

Valwhatever,

uhh yeah this is getting really rediculous. and I don't appreciate Zuni of all people coming on here and insulting me because of my opinion of cars.

- Insulting you buy asking if you base a cars capabilities on horsepower? Which was pretty much what you said in your posts about the Camaro.

you know what, get the mustang. something like 80% of all V6 mustangs are sold to teenage girls. have fun.

- There is an intelligent statement 🙂 There alot of girls out there that could jump into that mustang or any other equal car out there and peel the paint of your doors, just because a girl buys car makes her no less into racing, or a car nut than any guy.

I'm through with this thread. this is b.s. I never said the only important thing is horsepower, but mustangs are DOGS.

- I guess mustangs are dogs just because you beat some teenage girl in your firebird?

and I couldn't care less how many girls you've beaten in their bone stock automatic v6 camaros with your rice bucket, I don't give a flyin' fuc#.

- Rice bucket? Is that you call them when they fly by you on the highway? My car was completely stock nothing rice about it. I in no way instulted your vehicle, but I guess you feel that is necessary to prove something?

and I wish you lived around here Zuni with your hot-as-sh!t rice "rocket", because Texas is f-body country, and there are plenty of low-11-second Z28's in my town that would rape your car, fuc# its sister and sh!t on its shoes.

- Great, so now we are comparing a civic and a v6 mustang to an 11 second highly tuned v8 camaro? Excuse me for losing track but weren't we comparing the v6 here? Which barely hits 7.0 seconds 0-60 the same as the mustang or a civic sir. So if we are comparing 11 second camaros I guess then 400+ hp turbo civics come in to play that pull the 1/4 in 10 seconds ?

I'm signing off this one 🙂 Lost cause 🙂.

Redwingsguy,

You know what the best advice is? Drive both and buy the one YOU like the best, they are both decent vehicles, neither one better than the other in any significant way. It all comes down to what YOU like driving or what you LIKE the look of 🙂. Good luck with your purchase.

<< Great, so now we are comparing a civic and a v6 mustang to an 11 second highly tuned v8 camaro? >>

No he hasn't got the balls to do that, not comparing his car to anyone's anyway. He compares his "friends" car to a Civic.

What's funny is the 12 second 6-shooters he's talking about do it with nitrous, yawn..... If they really want to impress they ought to try turning a decent time with the motor first. Then they are worthy of a blue bottle.

<< you KNOW that the LS1 is a beast, with crazy power >>

they make the same hp/cu as the ford 4.6. so its not really crazy. in fact, neither is defined as a powerful engine, since neither makes better than 1 hp/cu.

redwingsguy - you don't like the looks of the camaro, and it would cost you 5k more. go with the stang. theres more than $5k worth of difference there since you don't like the looks of the f body.

gdawg - this is the f body's last year. the camaro nameplate will live on, according to the latest i've heard. the camaro will move to a different platform, though which one i couldn't tell you.

Um WHAT??? 260HP 4.6 305 LS1 Hmmmm Strange

305 HP is considered a powerful engine BTW.

The LS1 is a beast. Most 4.6 GT's dyno around 220-240 rwhp stock. Cobras dyno around 260-275rwhp. LS1s dyno around 300-320rwhp stock. Naturally aspirated, the LS1 is hard to beat with just a GT. A 4.6 Cobra can hold its own though(with gears).

The LS1 is far better NA than a 4.6. When you add a blower things change. 4.6s can take gobs of boost and make great power. The LS1 compression is not made for boost applications.

BTW, the fastest F-bodys ARE the automatics. The best M6 runs 1/4 - 12.113
MPH - 115.84. Best A4 is 11.565@115.54.

<< - Rice bucket? Is that you call them when they fly by you on the highway? >>

ut oh!! Zuni's been doing some ricer flyby's! 🙂🙂😛

Millenium's last post is totally accurate.

though the LS1 can take a good 7 lb blower you can't get much more but the 4.6 has a lower compression yeilding it to higher lbs of boost such as the 14+lb blowers. The 4L60 is the better tranny as the 6 speed ratio is really funny... Also under Supercharged conditions Auto's are mostly better as you don't have to respool some of the lost power due to humans not being able to shift as fast.

If you want the faster one outta the box get a Z28 or SS if you are planning to mod get the stang. Not only because it's cheaper to mod but modding an F-body is a PAIN even putting on headers REEKS

<< 5 other Mustang's that can take Camaro...Roush Mustang Stage I, II, or III, and the Saleen I or II. The Saleen cruises frm 0-60 in 4.6 secs, with 495 Horsepower. It walks the walk baby >>

Theer's always the Callaway Camaro's and Lingenfelter Camaro's that would chew up that Saleen S351 any day. Bottom line is that both are nice cars, both have fast models. Both have "super" versions. I would go with a Z car because I never liked any Mustangs just because there are way too many of them around here with flowmasters that think they have a hot rod because it sounds decent. If that wasn't so, I think my opinion would be a little different. I drove a 99 SVT convertible Cobra while deciding on what I was going to buy and it did not impress me at all. The SS 6 speed, IMHO, would beat the brakes off the SVT Cobra both being stock.

<< If they really want to impress they ought to try turning a decent time with the motor first. Then they are worthy of a blue bottle. >>

You know what? This is just like the rest of life. Whoever has the most $$$ will have the fastest car. Bottome line. Now way around it. Someone could sink $100K in that V6 Camaro or V6 Mustang, even thought it's really defeating the purpose, and embarass the hell outta you. You see, it does all come down to money, just like everything else, just like MLB and NFL and other sports.
