I have a 2000 Honda Accord V6. If I was going to pull a tranny out of a junkyard car, how would I tell what's compatible?

From what I can tell, I need a B7XA which can be found on 1998 to 2002 models. Not sure how to tell the difference in person though.

Its stamped somewhere on the transmission just like the engine code is stamped on the block. How do you know a JY trans will be in any better shape than what you've got?

I don't. It'll be a $100 pick-a-apart. I figured I'd check the tranny fluid black = pass and red = worth taking a risk. Rear end collision is most likely a good indicator.

I can take it out but I might pay someone to put it it ($350). So it's a $450 gamble. Local junkyard pulls all the batteries so there's no way to check the mileage. :-(

No, the key is required for the 6G Accord.

The transmission should be the same for any V6 in that generation. Honda bumped the warranty after 2000 due to early reported problems but I don't think they actually changed the design. I assume you can tell a 6G Accord by look even if you can't get under the car initially, and a V6 from the I4 (V6 badge, dual exhaust, etc.)

Good luck!
