When I'm starting up, about halfway through the status bar, 2000 just sits there, no HD activity. I think it may have something to do with me using a Dialup while still keeping my NIC inside with no cable plugged in. I think it has something to do with Windows trying to get an IP. How can I fix this hangin'? Thanks!

The NIC won't cause this (I've got a NIC in my system and no ethernet right now; causes no problems). What's your list of components?

Also, are you talking about the text based status bar or the one on the splash screen? If it's the text one then try the automatic repair process from the win2k install cd. It usually (not always) fixes those sorts of errors.

Hey, thanks for the responses. It hangs at the Splash screen. I can get into Windows fine, it's just a minor annoyance that it would just sit there doing absolutely nothing for like 30 seconds. I have nothing out of the unusual, the Netgear NIC, TV Card, Geforce, SB Live, 2 ATA66 HDs, 512 MB ram, Celeron 566@952.

Oh. If it's that then it probably does have to do with the nic. You could try to specify an IP address instead of letting it try to get one automatically. Personally I wouldn't worry about it though. By hanging I thought you meant that it wouldn't go any farther period.

If I specify an IP address, will Dial-Up TCP/IP still function? I have the NIC and evreything set up in anticipation of DSL. Oh pacbell.

you could just temporarily remove the nic, and see what happens, you have a via chipset by chance? i had hang problems at boot, and i jus updated my via's and it was a bit faster .. good luck ..

Yes dial-up will still work fine. And once you get the DSL switching it from a specified ip address to obtaining one automatically is a matter of unchecking a box.
