My sister when ever I argue with her about money like to yell about me wasting money on a $2000 TV, the one that I don't own.. I told her a while back that I was considering a $2000 LCD TV and that I had saved up for it but she thought it was a waste and tried to make me look bad because shes got a 26" CRT thats 'HD' and getting a 37" TV when I'm at home is dumb. I criticized her when she was first getting a TV due to her being away at college in a tiny dorm room.

She actually considered at one point to put the TV in front of the window, on top of the fridge, a disaster waiting to happen. To be honest, I have no idea if her CRT is like that now but all I know is that I don't think she thinks clearly about stuff such as this.

Funny, I'm probably going to get flamed for this post because complaining about family members unless it's so obviously their fault is uncool on atot. To be honest, I'm not angsty, I'm just board stiff.

I think it's a waste, but many people don't.

Especially if you have to "save up" for it.

seriously though, you only live once, and if you budget yourself right, you should buy whatever the hellyou want if it will make your life more enjoyable.

Flat panels are nice in that they are more convenient for placement in shallow rooms and can also fit better on smaller, less stable furniture and stands due to their depth and weight.

They also happen to have the "oooooohhhh" factor which is about 50% the draw :)

But yeh, just to own it to say you own it is pretty wasteful.

 yes that is indeed true. It's either they're inherently ignorant/stupid/clueless/whatever or I'm anal retentive, I think it's 50-50.

Agreed. I want one though because I've had a 5.1 surround sound system with a 10" TV since '02, kinda ridiculous isn't it? Though I managed to pickup a 20" CRT TV that my friend was going to dump out (broken VCR, Video in on front, crappy ghosting, mono). So I'm using that for now.

I thought so until my father got a nice LCD TV then watched a few things in HD. now i really want one. I just can't talk my wife into blowing $2k on a TV when we have a 36inch tube TV that works great.

I bought the Optima EP716 with a ceiling mount for $500 over christmas and it was money very well spent. Now that I'm in a house though, I need to buy a screen :(

I second the "you only live once" crowd, but you have to make sure it doesen't jeapordize your long term financial goals.

It's an entertainment expense anyway. Start calling a 2k TV a waste and you'll have to start calling any TV a waste.
