$200 Video Card Suggestions?

I'm looking at buying a video card ($200 and under preferrably). People recommended the 6600GT, but then someone else told me to get the X800 since it has 12 pixel pipelines and has the same core as the X800XL. But then the X800GT has comparable prices on Newegg, whats the difference?

Any suggestions? My computer doesn't have very good airflow. Its a Dell Dimension 8400, but I won't be able to build my new computer till the distant future. Right now it has a Radeon X300, so any upgrade would probably be GREAT.

6800non-GT unless you can find an ATI "equivalent" for the same price. Then again, they'll be coming out with their Shader Model 3 versions very shortly. Don't know exact date.

How do you unlock the pipelines? haha, I guess I'm just a noob at all this.

Thanks for the replies guys, that was really fast! I think I might go for the MSI X800 on Newegg ($166 after rebate). Now if only I didn't have this stinkin Dell case...

Sure you can pay $200 for a 6800NU or get the X800 for $135 that was mentioned earlier and save $65 getting a card that is just as fast, probably faster in most games.

6800 in pci-e is not very cost-effective

the best deal would be a used x800xl pci-e for 200 (since it retails for 230-250 now)

other than that, probably the x800 pro would be the way to go

If you're going to rely on opening up the other pipes then stray away. OCing/soft and hard modding isn't 100%, and never will be.

A Pro will outperform an XL only if overclocked or only if unlocked? I was thinking about an XL and not overclocking (because they can't) but have been reading about how teh Pros can be cranked to achieve better 3dMark scores. Are these better scores only achieved if they unlock?

There's a thread about unlocking the Pro's somewhere in this forum. Last I checked, the vivo Pro's had a pretty high success rate of unlocking.
