200 gig harddrive only formatted to 130 gigs!!!?!?

This seems a bit ridiculous. I could understand 10 or 20 gigs lost but 70?!! Any suggestions, it's brand new. It's a seagate and I think it's called an ide harddrive.

your version of windows is pre sp1.you can either download and install sp1 or slipstream it,then you will see the remaining 70 gigs.

oh alright, see I just installed windows xp late last night and I had to get some sleep before I installed the sp's. Thank you soo much. I knew 130 wasn't right.

so does it work now?

if not, it might be a hardware issue (lots of boards only support ide upto 137gb, have to upgrade to a 48-bit enabled controller)

IS the Asus A7N8X Deluxe one of them boards, I have the SP2 and formatted a Hitachi 250 G.B. and it came out 137, So I did it two other times, Xp pro boot disk, Hitachi disk and windows disk, So how do you get the other space, I wanted to run it as a slave to my 80 and just use it for my video work with the ATI AIW

Go to the hitachi website or maxtors and look for 48bit LBA enabler. If you really can't find it I guess I can send you the file (200KB). But first you need SP1, I'm assuming your chipset supports 48bit LBA so your good there, only problem now is your operating system and thats where you need to find that little patch which will enable 48bit LBA once SP1 is installed.

And Microsoft wasn't your first port of call?
They have a lovely knowledge base which tells you these helpful things.
Also, if you run a search on AT, I'm sure you coul dhave found many threads on this exact topic.
You really didn't need to create another thread.

It's only been asked and answered "a thousand times" or so. 😉
The search function actually does work here at AT, you know.
