In the free shipping-ness of it, and if you've got some GC's from NextCard Visa card (I had $60 worth) it becomes a very hot deal :)

imo, the fact that it's a philips makes it a pretty cold deal. you know... philips.. the ones that shipped their first few generations of cd-recorders with known defects and then refused to honor their warranties and had a class-action suit filed againast them...

Review:
Phillips eXpanium

As for this deal, please note that CC has this @ the B&M Stores this week for $199 (don't know if that's a sale price, I assume it's just an advertisement of regular price). That includes headphones, car kit, & AC/DC adapter. If it's like most new things, they probably don't have any in stock... and CC return policy sucks.

RCA RP2410

Looks like the RCA will be about $249 and supposedly will have ID3 tag support if/when it hits the shelves. [THE ID3 stuff is hinted @ in the Phillips review above, not in the RCA Review]

Yes, CC is the only B&M that carries the Philips. Most of the time they don't even know they do so you have to go in back or have someone knowledgeable get it for you.

As for Philips and what's good, what's not, etc ... I'd put my money on the Philips. They are the first major name brand to produce a mp3cd player. They are also the only company that released their product on the announced date and they met all their product specifications. Three of my friends have bought this product as a result of my recommendation and none of them have complaints. It's easy to say you'll wait for such and such because it's better. But that's besides the point in the realm of computer hardware. Why get the Athlon 1Ghz now when you can get the 1.5 Ghz in a few months? Why get a 19 inch monitor when you can get a flatscreen in a year? etc..

Yes, Circuit City knows they have it :) They advertised it in this weeks Sunday times. $200, regular price, no sale though :(

Yup mambox is already out, and it is one of the crappiest mp3 cd players out sadly. I bought my Philips last week (after waiting an year for the sm200c), and i must say, it's pretty darn good. Went to a xc meet yesterday and had my earphones on for the whole time (1pm to 5pm). There are some bad things about this player, but overall, it is excellent, good sound (loud if you get the right mp3s unlike how other people have complained). I think it's the best one out right now, since the sm200c is limited in supply and has bad esp. The other ones out are cheaper, but from the feeling i get from reading all those msg boards, these aren't that great. But that's just my 2 cents

ok guys... the hot deal has arrived... you can get this using the $50 off $200 coupon "they" have for electronics at amazon.com.

"they" meaning the cool sites that provide coupons for everyone to enjoy. :)

WHOA!!

I just checked the Circuit City online store and they're selling at Circuit City!!

I'll be stopping by my local Circuit City to see if i can find one, if so i'll buy it later this week and let everyone know what i think :)

I currently have a regular 45 second ESP Philips CD player that reads CD-RW and it kicks ***, I just pop mp3s into nero and have it automatically convert them to wav as it records. I use it for running and never skips on me (for the 5 miles i run at least).

I believe you have to add another item to your cart, the MP3 player is some $199, not $200 and it will not allow you to apply the coupon unless you have another item in the shopping cart :)

Err--sorry, forgot to add that if you wanna buy this, and use the $50 off $200, be sure to add a pack of 2-AA Batteries or anything else FROM THE ELECTRONICS STORE ONLY. That is the only way the coupon will work. The Expanium is $199.94, not $200 so the GC will not be applied because shipping is free. But that it makes it all the more worthwhile :) Shipping is usually around $5, if you add the $3 batteries that is $2 in savings!

:D

I did this deal using some coupons and gc's. The eXpanium is very high quality and works perfectly for the most part. TWO GRIPES:
-No ID3 Tag support
-Won't even play b/c it skips so much when I jog on a treadmill.
Hope that helps.

pretty big gripes tho... and i don't get it -- i've been waiting for more than a year and half for one company to put a portable CD player that reads MP3s on disk. They pretty much NEED to have the ID3 support since your dealing with 100 or so tracks per disk, and how hard is it to implement some shock protection?? These companies don't want my money or what??
