Some of the mods (past and present) have mentioned being given tech as "gifts" that was so bad, it wasn't worth the cost of shipping.

Yep. I have 2 entries just for having accounts here and that's all I'm going to get. Death before Facebook and Twitter! At this point there are 8000+ entries, so I'm not holding my breath. More than 4000:1 against and getting worse every minute.

Maybe it's old age, but why so cynical? Obviously they got a bunch of donations from hardware companies. I'd be shocked if such product was used, let alone harshly used already.

Wow, 20 years? I joined Feb 14, 2004 (lurked before that), so that's 13 years on these forums. It's amazing how much I've learned in that time. I knew squat about technology when I joined, I was an art geek at the time. Now I do IT professionally.
