20 years ago, at exactly 11:38 AM Janurary 28 1986, chalnnger lifted of. 73 seconds later, the space shuttle exploded. 4 minutes later, the remains hit the water. NASA advanced a lot during those years but Columbia proved again the space is a dangerous thing. let us take a minute to remember those 7 astronauts.

I still remember what class I was in (sophmore year in HS), we were watching it due the Christa McAuliffe, the teacher in space. Everyone was in a state of shock for the rest of the week.

I was returning to work from lunch in NY City. I saw that something had happened. Everyone was acting weird and instead of just walking to where they were going it seemed everyone was talking to someone else.
Then I saw someone reading the NY Post which had an Extra edition out and it said "Challenger Explodes"

I was doing deliveries when the news broke on the radio; I had to pull over to the side of the road.

I was in the lunch room watching, back then it was still a huge deal when a shuttle was launched.

I was in junior high. Mr Warren informed us. Seemed like he was more upset than anyone else--hand over mouth, wide eyes, etc. He even went and got a TV so we could watch coverage for the rest of the period--actually he watched coverage for the rest of the day!
