$20 unlimited data still avaliable for non 3g?

I have a friend who is going to upgrade to the 3g iphone in few days. She offered to sell me the old one for real cheap but can I still get the $20 data plan on it?

thanx

I'm highly contemplating this, if the price drops significantly on eBay.

I contemplated it for a long time and finally decided to bite the bullet (so long as I can get the $20 data)

Yea, for me, it'll depend on what the price of the first gen phone goes for on eBay after the 3G launches. I can afford $200-$300 for the phone, but a lot of them are hitting $500 still.

with the increase in the monthly fee, and only minor differences in the hardware (3G & GPS), I don't really expect the prices for iPhone 2G to drop very much. I was contemplating getting the new 3G device, but in order to break even I'd have to sell mine for $559 (thats going 8gb to 8gb). 3G & GPS are great, but they aren't worth an extra $15/month for me (keeping the plan features the same).

Now, if FAN discounts apply, it would save me another $8-16/month, depending on whether it applies to just voice or the entire package. Then I wouldn't be adverse to selling my 1G for $300 to purchase the new 3G device.

For what its worth, I wish AT&T would allow for plans with less daytime voice minutes (say 250 or 300) for $30 instead of $40, then I'd jump on it, $30 data and $5 txt on top, though the data and txt rates are still highway robbery (even though they are the same for all devices now. doesn't mean it isn't too much.)

Yea. thats what I was afraid of. I don't think the 1st gen iPhone is going to drop in price at all. And while I can afford the upfront cost of the iPhone 3G, I don't know that I want to spend that much per month.

Well now it's a waiting game for me. Hopefully someone I know will be willing to get rid of their 1st gen for cheap. hah!

well, I'm not saying there won't be a flood of cheap iPhone 1Gs from the wealthy (or the uncaring)...it just may not be as easy to find. If they made the 3G slightly more affordable (FAN + included 200txt) my iPhone 1G would be on the market.

I'm going to wait until around September to make my decision...it got me a $200 price break the first time!
