This is why I am hesitant to go work for oil/gas companies in North Dakota. I hope you Yankees stay warm and safe.

Svnla, where do you live down South...? I currently have a guy from Houston working for me... I can't say that he enjoys this weather..... ;) Granted... I don't either. 30°F is just fine for me.

P.S. said guy working though ISN'T late EVER & is a hard worker though. Just makes me chuckle every day because of the things he says about the weather.

I'm in the area, we had -29F one morning in 2009, but it was not windy.
I feel sorry for the wildlife, people won't be outside on that day - schools will close most likely.

Just had our cold spell, finally warming up to -6C. Was down to -29C with wind chill the other morning.

I think it's high time we just quit fooling around, and finally invade Canada. They've been weather bombing us for decades now, with this sh*t, and it's time we end it, once and for all! Added benefits, we get their beer and their hot women, not to mention enough salmon and moose to make it worthwhile!

Seriously, you guys stay warm up there. I'm in north Texas (just below the OK state line), and we're supposed to get down into the 30's for highs the next couple days, with nighttime lows down into the teens. That's plenty cold enough for me, thank you!

I am down here deep in the South (Northeast of TX). Have a good paying job for me? Have college degree with a few years of experience, will travel.:p

I do like cold weather better than the freaking 100+ heat and humidity here in the summer but below 0 and lower is a bit much for me.

any one else in the area? thoughts?

This is what a Polar Vortex looks / feels like in the winter. Quite a nasty weather event. It's not commonly found over the Great Lakes.

Yeah, I think it's bs! I run a small business which requires me to drop off products and be outside for about 10 minutes a stop. Luckily, it's only 10 minutes generally but it's still freaking cold!

"Wind chill factor" - almost meaningless, except for people who want to proclaim how cold it is. It's not a matter of being that cold - it's a matter of being inappropriately dressed. If you don't have bare skin exposed, the wind chill factor is pretty irrelevant.

Well, it does also affect how quickly a bucket of water will freeze. I hate when it's this cold - it adds at least an hour to how long it takes to do chores (giving all the goats water). And, it does take a couple minutes longer getting dressed to go outside for an extended period of time (1 1/2 hours lately). But, except for my gloves being momentarily wet last night (followed by frozen, followed by *very* cold fingers - half an hour later, the 35 degree water from my faucet felt warm), I almost never come back into the house saying, "wow, I'm cold." I'm generally quite comfortable outside the entire time, regardless of how cold it gets. Same cannot be said for very hot & humid days.

Just another reason to build a wall by canada to stop their illegal cold air from coming over our borders. ;)

No school for the kids which kind of sucks since it's 10x harder to get any work done while they're home.

Wind would help the transfer / loss of heat on any surface. Your clothes would get colder faster, not just bare skin. Right?
