You can still run Windows on new Macs
No need to restart/shut down
Time Machine
Battery life on laptops
Easy install/uninstall of apps

That's it for now.

BTW, I have been a Mac user for a few weeks after being a Windows user for 10+ years, so I am just starting to learn about such things.

Hmm, this suspiciously sounds like a homework assignment...;)

1: You
2: have
3: obviously
4: already
5: made
6: up
7: your
8: mind,
9: and
10: nothing
11: we
12: say
13: will
14: ulitmately
15: sway
16: you,
17: however
18: if

If you are getting a portable, Apple makes (based on my experience, opinions, and observations) some of the best laptops on the market right now. The build quality is top notch, and the battery life is obscene.

If you are getting a desktop then that is a trickier question. For an All-in-One, the iMac is fantastic, and only the Dell XPS All-in-Ones can compete with it in terms of performance, price, and looks. However, all-in-ones are not for everyone.

The Mini is great if you are looking for a small, quiet, relatively powerful (for its size, bear in mind it is not much larger than some external optical drives) system.

The Mac Pro is where it gets tricky. Obivously if you are looking for a true, solid workstation then look no further. It competes on price with workstations in its class, and it is a real looker. However, as plenty have demonstrated, a well put together hackintosh can get you a consumer equivalent, with similar performance for a fraction of the cost.

So, the real questions are these:
Are you fed up with Windows?
Are you afraid/unwanting to try Linux? (I am in that category, not afraid, just don't want it).
Do you want a killer laptop package?
Do you do a lot of home media stuff (picture organizing, music, movies that sort of thing)?
Do you want your system to just get out of your way and let you actually use your computer?

I can't give you 20 reasons why you should switch, because I don't know what your needs and preferences are. Give me 20 reasons why you use Windows, and maybe I'll be able to tell you if you'd like a Mac.

For me, I think Windows is great (Vista and 7 being excellent OSes), but I'm just tired of it. Also, I desire certain unix based utilities and features, but have no desire to actually run Linux on common use machines...for my wife's sake.

One day, I'll have my 13" MacBook Pro + iMac.

However, a big thing that stops me from going with Apple full tilt is my Zune/Zunepass/Sonos system. I need a windows machine to run the Zune software for zunepass and WMP for Sonos UPnP/DLNA with the wm-drm. If Apple offered a similar unlimited subscription model for $15/mo (+ keep 10), I'd be fine switching to the iPod and getting an iMac for our primary home system. The other thing I'd miss out on is DVR via VMC/Media Center Extender on our Xbox360.

I could run all that in a VM, sure, but I don't really want to have a VM running full time chewing up resources.

A few reasons off the top of my head why I won't be getting one:

1. I find them grossly over prices
2. I like to customize my machines (Components, Cases)
3. The software I want to run (Vmware, Games) prefer a windows environment
4. Cheaper to upgrade
5. I don?t like the smugness and attitude of most Apple users
6. I don?t like Apple?s ethics, there just as bad as MS ?was?
7. My first OS was 3.1 and growing up with windows, I know it inside out
8. I don?t know what I?d do with a macbook? Pose with it at a starbucks?
9. I run Leopard in Vmware...Hardly boot it up
10. I am for open systems, I don?t really believe propriortory systems are the way to go
11. Windows (Like it or not) is everywhere, I don?t care about being different for difference sake

1. The OS is dead easy to use for n00bs but offers full UNIX power for pros
2. Mac comes with everything you need and always has
3. Macs are the de facto system for the media, graphic design, and entertainment industries.
4. It can run Windows as well so no need for two systems to run all software you need
5. Systems offer top notch build quality. Aluminum chassis versus plastic... enough said.
6. Excellent customer support
7. Laptops offer some of the best battery life in the business
8. OS X uses a lot less system resources than Vista does and is more responsive
9. Macs are only susceptible to a tiny fraction of malware out in the wild. They don't need to be locked up like Fort Knox
10. No annoying UAC, period.
11. No IE. Internet Explorer is a nightmare for web programmers and doesn't work properly with half the websites out there.
12. Easy integration with iPods and iPhones
13. Works right out of the box and requires no instructions to set up. An idiot could do it.
14. You'll wonder how you lived without the multitouch trackpad
15. Stylish contemporary design
16. Offered many innovative features, such as GPU accelerated desktops, long before Windows did.
17. LED backlighting on Macbook and Cinema displays offers superior picture quality and battery life
18. Steve Jobs is the man. Love that sweater/jeans combo. Wish I could wear that to the office.
19. It's a well known fact that Steve Balmer is either psycho or from another planet
20. Windows fanboys are lame.

So why do you use Windows? You should be using a Linux or Unix based OS.

i use both macs and pcs. why pigeonhole myself to ONE OS type. my most mobile system is a macbook pro. i love it. it is aesthetically pleasing and it works GREAT, and i take care of my media off of it too (photoshopping, music, iphone synching). when i game, i love my rig that i built. i can't give you 20 reasons as why you should switch from one to the other, but you could use both and have an awesome time enjoying the best of both worlds.

I was alluding more to the fact I can pick my own components and get pretty much any configuration I want. Also you can install windows on to any machine 9/10, with Apple you 'HAVE' to get a mac ( Yeah I know Hackintosh)

No sense in feeding the troll. I still dont understand, clearly people like Macbook's because their one of the best selling laptops on the current market. Big deal you dont like it, dont try to give others who do crap.

No one is feeding the troll, we are ignoring the troll and doing our own thing.

As for the OP's question... if he really needs 20 reasons to switch, then he doesn't need to switch. In fact, unless you are an iPhone dev, you really don't NEED to switch, anything one can do on Windows save for OS specific things like CAD or whatever, you can do on OS X. Anything one can do on OS X save for iPhone development, or some other things that I can't think of off the top of my head right now you can do in Windows as well.

I didn't even become fed up with Windows (especially XP, god I am so over XP) until I switched.

Arguments have been given for and against - I see nothing wrong with this , since there is no flaming, even if the intention of the OP was to stir things up

We all have our allegiances, likes, dislikes, I believe we have been fairly balanced.

Unite with me my mac brothers:beer:

I just got a Mac on Monday and briefly had one months ago...

I see no real good reason to switch. OSX has some cool features but none of them are really must have.

The only thing I use constantly that I would say that I would like on Windows (for laptops) is the 2 finger scrolling. Dell tried to cheat it but it just works smooth on my Mac.

My wife, OTOH, thinks it is the coolest thing on the planet.

EDIT:

I will say, though, that the iPod touch was a sweet bonus. I think I was more impressed with that than the macbook.

And then the fact you can control many things on your macbook from your Touch made it that much cooler.

But other than the "cool" factor - there is no real solid good reason to switch (to me).
