I enjoy watching them both about the same on tv, but I think College is much more fun to be at.

A bunch of 25-year-old millionaires who will dump your town the minute their agent secures a better offer. There is no loyalty in the NFL. College football is all about loyalty.

Like college basketball, most superstar college players will dump his college if there's a chance he can get into the pros and make millions rather than stay for four years. If there was no rule prohibiting them and if they were able to, college players would leave after 1-2 years, easily. Of course you'll have your Matt Leinarts and JJ Redick's out there, but for the most part, money appeals to everyone, regardless if he's a veteran or a sophomore in college.

And here's the counter..

To those who have said about the campus feeling and how 40 year olds are less energetic than 20 year olds. What do you watch when you become a 40 year old?

Also NFL players come from the NCAA, so that whole money thing and players being a jerk, somehow I think they had that type of attitude before, they didn't just suddenly develop it in the NFL.

I'm fairly certain gary coleman could be a successful running back in college football on the right team, for example.

I just posted the article, they aren't my 20 points, I agree that the NFL is still better.

My sarcasm detector still can't get a reading on you. I'm guessing you are joking, but I'm not entirely sure of that. One of my major gripes with college sports aside from the quality of play is how much under the table money is involved. It's nice that students who generally don't make the cut at a good university can go there and get an education, that's probably good for society, but to claim that college sports is in any way pure or that the players don't make a decent amount of money is absolutely ridiculous.

College players seem to work harder. They have to impress to get to the next level, where as in the NFL it is about stretching out the career.

Of course, then there's the fact that NFL players practice about five thousand times more rigorously and more frequently since college players have to spend a decent amount of time actually going to class and "studying" whereas an NFL player's full time job involves football.

College ball is MUCH MORE exciting.

The NFL defenses are too strong, fast and experienced to really allow for shoot-outs the way you see in a Pac-10 game for instance. The "all business" attitude in the NFL is also a boorish drag.

The rivalries, tradition and excitement of youth is also more inspirational.

One other reason college football is lame in respect to the NFL is the level of parity. How often do you see complete and utter domination of one to by another in the NFL? How often do you see shutouts in the NFL? When is the last time you saw someone get beat by 70 points in the NFL?

Face it. College football is really only exciting if you are a fan of a team that is in a major conference and hopefully not at the bottom of said major conference. In the NFL at least you have hopes that your team might not blow next year. The sad thing is that probably 99% of college teams have absolutely no chance to win the title next year and that correlates to probably 50% (or less) in the NFL.

21. They're paid more money.

College football is crap. I'd rather watch two good teams play, then two bad rivals. They're not a bunch of wholesome do it for the team players, they want their money just as much as the NFL players.

I don't think I can ever get as passionate about the NFL (random cities) than I can about my college team.

The atmosphere around a CFB town on the days leading up to a game is electric. Plus the NFL couldn't consistently sell out college-size stadiums.

My college's team had a game won in the 4th quarter and all they had to do was kneel three times to win. Due to some catastrophic failure either by the coach or QB, they didn't, and lost the game when a pass was intercepted. When stuff like that happens on a semi-regular basis, it becomes much easier to care more about an NFL team.

For 99% of college football players, the NFL is what they are working towards. If that itself doesn't mean the NFL is better than college, I don't know what does.

Also, college football players get full rides to their respective universities to major in "General Humanities" or whatever your school calls it, in order for them to become uneducated jocks who are purely interested in playing in the NFL.

Edit: About the passion thing, I go to the University of Pittsburgh, and I still feel that the Steelers are more my team than the Panthers are, even though I go to the school.

I've become less and less passionate about any pro-sports over the past few years... Still a Redskins fan here, and that's one of the few teams that that list isn't quite as critical of. (Great song after scoring, Jack Kent Cooke built his own stadium, etc.)

The one thing that the NFL *used to have* that college didn't have is the concept of "team" - How many years did the Redskins have "the posse"? These days, with salary caps, free agency, etc. intended to increase parity, it's turned the sport more into a matter of individualism - "where can I play and get the most money?"

Wow, tight race. :Q

I'm from a college football town, so not surprisingly I'll watch it more. But I definitely don't think one is better than the other. Different caliber of players, different game.

Zero defence in childrens ball. I love when they play with adults and get flattened.

The NCAA is all about money...it is a legal monopoly that cuts deals with pro sports to ensure the marketability of college football and basketball. All but a few precent of college athletes are used by the system and then discarded.

All that said...college and pro football are about on par as far as my personal enjoyment goes.

Checkerboard end zones. Aggies kissing their girls after a touchdown. Nittany Lion roars. Boats on Lake Washington anchoring at a Husky game. The flaming spear at midfield. The Sooner Schooner. Touchdown Jesus. Traditions are the imprimatur of every college team and its fans. As long as the NFL is operated out of one office in New York, tradition will be disallowed.

Now it really gets interetsing if you start dating a UT girl, its fine for all the games except for one ;) I'm going to miss Aggie football, but I'll be back for at least one game this year -- at grad school at Georgia Tech
Can't wait...just need to find me a girl.

Interesting, college football took the lead. I think this has to do with the number of college students that voted?
