20 pin to 24 pin connector

I've read the A8N thread and saw that several guys have 20 pin ATX connectors attached to the 24 pin eATX. I'm about to fire up the same configuration (bought the wrong ps, stores are closed, doh). Is there any reason in the world to expect this to fry my new hardware? Connector is flush against the right as you face the ram.

Thanks

I would be chicken to do that.....

I have no idea if its right or wrong,
but you got too much at stake if you are wrong.

But then, I am not lucky, are you ???

I think the board is made to work with 20-pin connectors (check Asus' site); the other four are redundant wires that provide extra current for PCIe. Just make sure the PSU is of very good quality and can supply enough power before doing this (you may want to check with us).

It shouldn't fry anything as long as you have the connector at the correct end - the pinout of the first 20 pins are the same. But the mobo may not run very well. You may want to feel of the ATX connector occasionally during first use to be sure it isn't getting too hot - the sign of overloaded, loose, or corroded contacts. I've seen some really nasty pix of some fried ATX connectors here on the ATF - you don't want that to happen!

The board works fine with a 20 pin, provided the PSU has enough muscle. I am running an A8N-SLI Deluxe right now off of an Enermax 460W PSU, and it hasn't had a hitch in the past 4 days I've had it up. Even when overclocking, it's perfectly fine.

Just make sure you have the 20 pins in the right place (see the A8N-SLI Deluxe manual) in the 24 pin plug, and all will be well.
