Im going to be upgrading my current pc buy buying a new mobo ram etc. But my powersupply has a 20 pin connecter but the new mobo has a 24 pin connecter. Is there any way to get this to work without buying a new powersupply?

BTW..they do make a 20 pin to 24 pin adapter..but there is a lot of general feelings that this is not a good way to go...having said that...in theary it should work if you can supply amply power.

Thanks for the info i think im just gonna go with a new powersupply. My current one is an antec 350 so ill probably go with an antec 500 for future expansion.

As long as it's a quality PSU, it should work fine with or without a 20->24pin adapter. The 20pin will still plug straight into the 24pin socket. Read your mobo booklet ans see what it says. I used a 20pin Elements zPower 500w PSU with my eVGA NF41 SLI motherboard for almost a year. I also was powering 2 7800GTs! I had zero issues. BTW, I would reccommend Antec if you're going to purchase a new PSU.

I upgraded my antec 350 to an antec 550 TruControl and after a year I had problems with it and upgraded to a PC Power & Cooling 750w Silencer when I built a new system and it's ultra stable but cost alot more.

There's no way the system in your .sig draws anywhere near 750W, let alone 550W. If that Antec failed after a year, wasn't because of insufficient power but more likely capacitor problems.

I just put together a system using Abit KN9 sli board which i soon found out had a 24 pin
connector. Checked the mobo manual and it said I could use the 20 pin connector without any adaptor or anything but recomended having at least a 350 watt psu to avoid system instability.

Its worked so far, but all I did was install windows and some drivers. Since the 20 Pin connector is smaller then the 24 obviously, the clips do not line up meaning that the cord is not very secure on the motherboard but that shouldnt be much of a problem.

Also this is the first time Ive tried this so I dont know if it works for all mobos and psu's.
