Damn, too bad you can't use it on oil.

EDIT: All for naught anyway since there isn't a store within 100 miles of me :p

There's a possible rage comic in this somewhere.

their coupons have never worked on oil

I went to Advance Auto for oil over the weekend. Walked in the door and prominently displayed was 5 quarts of decent namebrand oil plus a decent filter for $18. No coupons, no hassle, price prominently advertised. That's a very reasonable proposition and I strongly suspect they are selling it close to cost in order to attract business.

Given that small margin, I can understand why they exclude oil. Take 40% off and they are almost surely loosing money.

Now it sucks that the pricey, higher-margin synthetics that aren't being used to get people in the door get excluded but what would you suggest they do? In my mind any attempt at a solution leads to the sort of convoluted deal structure that I hate at so many other retailers. Barring oils keeps things agreeably simple and lets them offer some pretty good deals almost all the way around.

I know I've happily used their discounts on parts that were already quite competitive with other B&M's. So, enjoy their generally quite agreeable discounts and if you need some specific oil, find it elsewhere. At least that's my take on it.

I bought some stuff today again with the $20 off $50. Cant beat it. Guess I should have used the $50 off $100. oh well. Still saving $40 off $100 on stuff that seldom goes on sale that you need. Not to bad.
