Here's info from Amazon:

Tune In, Turn On, Save $20
Have your eye on a new stereo system, DVD player, or digital camera? To first-time shoppers in our Electronics store, we're offering a $20 gift certificate toward any purchase of $100 or more. Get plugged in! Simply use claim code [code deleted] when ordering.

(Note: New orders only. Limit one gift certificate per customer. Offer expires September 23.)

Keep in mind they still have that Western Digital 13GB drive for under $60. If you're a new customer, grab 2 of them, use the coupon and you'll get the drives below $100.

I think the last one was suppose to be for new customers only too. Regardless, it's still a good opportunity to put those amazon GC's to good use.

I've had several others email me and tell me that it IS working for returning customers, so I guess it is. No telling when it will change though (if at all?) Anyway, good deal, use it.

Wiseone,
DITTO!! I am in the same boat with GC's and the plextor!! I actually wrote them and suggested they get it. If we bug them enough about stocking it, they might get it one day...

i might get it form buycomp. (BTW is there a way to make free shipping and 30off coupon work together?)

or i just might give in and get that 8x from amazon, it'll end up being free for me. is there really a big diff between 8x and 12x other then it burns like 3min faster?

One way to use this coupon:
I-Jam MP3 player 32MB(2x16MB sticks): $80 - $50 rebate MP3
Pair V-Tech FRS two-way radios: $30 each - $10 per radio Radio
Radios come in choice of color.

MP3 : $80
2 x FRS : $60
Coupon : -$20
MP3 rebate : -$50
2 x FRS rebate: -$20
--------------------
$50 + shipping ~ $10

Only wish that Yamaha burner has burnproof technology... anyone know if any of the CDRW's at amazon have burnproof? Since it looks like they won't be getting the 12xPlextor anytime soon.

WiseOne,

I'm in the same position as you... I have $280 in Amazon GCs and I'm looking to get the Plextor 12x burner. I've actually emailed Amazon and got a generic reply saying "they'll forward the request to the appropriate department."

In any case, the BurnProof technology is a Sanyo product; Plextor drives use Sanyo mechanisms. AFAIK, only the Plextor 12x IDE & SCSI drives have this feature.

Some people have said that BurnProof is really a non-issue nowadays with 2 MB buffers on hardware and software buffers, but YMMV. Personally, I'm waiting. Perhaps I'll send Amazon another email, and you can too.

I've wanted to upgrade my 4x6 Yamaha for the longest time, but with the "burnproof" tech out there, the only drive I'll buy is the Plextor. Locally, there are stores that carry the Plextor, and for a reasonable price, but I can get the Yamaha 8x for almost half the price. I think I may give up soon and just grab the Yamaha, but I know I'll be kicking myself when the prices on the Plextors drop. What to do!?
