If you recently bought a Maxtor 40GB or greater retail hard drive, you may qualify. Get the controller for free and about 20 bucks in you pocket. Slippage mentioned this in the Maxtor hard drive thread but it was buried and people that already bought a Maxtor drive, may have missed it.

Go to staples.com:

$49.98 Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI Adapter Card (443233)
$.16 The World Brand Paper Clips, Smooth Finish, No. 1 (ACC72380)
-20.00 coupon code
-50.00 rebate for Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 and a Maxtor 40GB or greater kit.

Here is the link for the rebate, please verify that you qualify before purchasing.

Here are the answers to common asked question. FAQ

Credits to slippage for pointing out that staples had this item and fooey for the link to the MIR.

Sounds like a good deal. But I dont know if i can get in on it. i just bought a 40gig maxtor using the equalfooting deal, but the bastards shipped me an OEM drive supplied by Blue Nova Computing instead of the staples retail drive that i had really ordered. will this still work?

I think you have to purchase the HDD and controller card TOGETHER, which both items in ONE receipt. Correct me if I'm wrong.
IF you read the rebate form carefully, it stated 'receipt', NOT 'receipts'

From the FAQ seen on the rebate link:

Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the
promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.

Check this Maxtor Rebate FAQ, it says the following:

--
Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.

Do I have to purchase both products at the same store?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.

So it appears you can buy them separately and still do the rebate!

Right, you don't have to purchase them together. As long as both are purchased within the correct time frame. The coupon also states 40GB OR above so a 40GB drive will work.

You guys should price match Onvia for $41.58 then you get to spend a little extra at Staples making it up to the $50

They'll be going out of stock on paper clips next ;)

stupid staples I did this and they sent me a stupid maxtor firewire pci adapter card instead. This happened to me the same day staples wouldn't price match the PNY PC100 ram with onvia even though I could get them to admit they were the exact same item. The ATA cards are out of stock at the staples in my area so I'm going to have to drive to a neighboring town to get the right card. If I wasn't making $20, I might be really upset ;)

There's another rebate with maxtor that's available on Staples.com. It is for a 30+ gig HD and ATA100 card purchase. I was wonderin' if the same conditions apply to that rebate. (ie. can be purchased separately)

Anyone know if there is currently a valid $20 off $50+ coupon?

I checked techb@rgains and they don't have one.

I doubt you could get staples to price match this deal, as that would put it under the $50 needed to use the $20 staples coupon.

I picked up the Maxtor Ultra ata/100 controller card from my local staples and its a promise card. Lucky I get the $50 bux back from the rebate or I'll be super P#ss. I saw the Promise controller card at C@ompgeeks for like $23 bux.

the staples near me does NOT allow online codes, they insisted on a piece of paper coupon that they can get their money back from, they did however give me the PM from office depot for $119 ( 40 maxter+zip drive), they couldnt find the date printed on the printout but took it anyway, yea!
