Thanks to gemniii at FW.

CompUSA is supposed to have the Western Digital 250GB SATA-300 SKU 338173 for $50 after MIRs starting Sep 3. That's all the information I can find right now. Anyone have the flyer and can verify?

Thanks! I don't get the flyer until tomorrow, but I know there are places where it's available on Saturday.

Potential hot deal if you've got a Compusa closing near you. The closest Compusa to me is closing has 30 percent off all hard drives, making the drive $10AR, I might have to go pick one up 😛

Yes, WD retail box (like Maxtor) are 1 year warranty.

Kinda kills it for me. I'll wait for a Seagate deal.

Ha, I have a 16 month old Seagate SATA that is now a paperweight and they wont honor their warranty. Reminds me of that Chris Farley movie:

TommyBoy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box?

Ted: Go on, I'm listening.

TommyBoy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Seagate puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause they want you to fell all warm and toasty inside.

Ted: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

TommyBoy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?

Ted:But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

TommyBoy: Because they know all they solda ya was a guaranteed piece of ******. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time.

Am I uninformed? Is CompUSA going out of buisness?

No. A few stores are closing. COMPUSA Closing.

I will be near the one in Beverly Hills which shows up on their list this Friday. Anyway to contact that store #740 to find out if they have this drive in stock? This store seems non-existant on their store locator list online.

you can extend the warranty by two years for 14.95 at the western digital site I was told for 3 years of warranty but that brings up the price to like 65.

What was their reason for not honoring the warranty?
Couldn't you take them to court over this?

System components are a totally different animal. They are handled by the company you bought the system from. In HomeAppraiser's case that would be HP's warranty if I remember the issue correctly. If you had a Western Digital originally in the same system it would not have been covered by them, either. Maxtor certainly would not have covered because it was 16 months old.
