50 dollar "gold plated" usb printer cable.

frys been selling those cables minus the gold for 99 cents:p

excuse me, 24K gold-plated and corrosion-proof connectors for maximum conductivity and error-free transmission of up to 480 Mbps are extremely important.

cough

Agent 142 personally recommends this cable for intimidating technophiles.

even better, they have two "top contributors" giving 5.0 ratting on review for that cable!

That's probably an accurate review. A SATA cable's either going to be a 5 or a 1. It's kind of a binary item. Either it works or it doesn't :^D

sometimes you really need a cable and you're willing to pay whatever it takes. Best buy knows so they'll do it.

Fry's isn't always that cheap either, Regular IDE Ribbon cable from their in house brand was 15 bucks for 2 slot cables.

Step 1 - Order SATA cable from online retailer (such as monoprice).
Step 2 - Buy desktop from Best Buy (probably more fun if it's expensive).
Step 3 - Take SATA cable out of new desktop.
Step 4 - When new SATA cable arrives, install new SATA cable.
Step 5 - Return desktop to Best Buy.
Step 6 - When asked why you returned the desktop, respond "just wanted to borrow the SATA cable for a few days."
Step 7 - ???
Step 8 - Profit.

Even office stores carry them. Just look around. Hell, there's probably an accessory or something that includes one for less than that.

I've gotten two or three SATA cables with every motherboard I've purchased since the Socket 754 days. I must have a good collection by now.

Unfortunately, even the local Staples around here has got into the overpriced cable racket as well. I once needed an Ethernet cable for a class I was about to attend because they didn't have WiFi, and they charged me $20 for a "premium" 6 foot cat 6 cable :|

It sucked to pay it, but I needed it at the time!

The last overpriced B&M thing I bought was a ethernet coupler for $10 at CompUSA like 10 years ago, that was fucking ridiculous.

if you need one today, then it is a bargain.

Bargain or not you'd still be an idiot.

Well, I'd have to say you're only an idiot if you know better. Luckily for BB, they mostly sell these grossly overpriced items to people who are ignorant of how cheaply they can be had online.

Last year, I was in Circuit City buying some on-sale dvd's I wanted, and saw someone buying an all-in-one printer and usb cable. I groaned to myself when I heard them ring up the cable for $20, and it took all I could do to keep from shouting out, "FU*K THAT!! Come over to my place and I'll give you one for FREE!!!!!"

But ignorance is bliss, and these B&M stores play on that.
