I currently have a 4 yr old Iiyama 17" monitor running 1280x1024 @85 hz on a Matrox G400 - I don't play games BTW. I'd like to upgrade. I am very tempted by the Dell 2000FP (just over 1100 UKP) . Running a relatively large desktop as I do on my 17" monitor would I really feel the benefit of moving up to 1600x1200 on a LCD or would I be happier with the CRT running 1800 x 1440 or similar (saving a lot of money but sacrificing desk-space)

What do you think?

Do you do a lot of work that requires text or little graphics?
Personally I would go for the 20 inch LCD. LCDs display really crisp text and its easy on your eyes and has that cool look factor. Heck, I've never seen an LCD that big yet anyway:).
If you are doing a lot of photoshop work or other stuff that requires color accuracy, go for the Diamondtron. These days, I think LCDs color quality is comparable to CRTs so I guess you can't go wrong with the LCD.
What are the prices of each?

Definately go for the 20" LCD. Where I work I've seen some 20.1" NEC 2010X LCD screens and those things look awesome. I'm sure the Dell ones will probably look as good.

I got in on the Dell 2000FP for 1330.00 shipped deal last month. Unfortunately the original monitor was slightly damaged, so they sent another one. The new one arrived and it also had problems. I finally asked for another call tag and returned it for credit. Maybe next time.

Looking past the flaws I had, the monitor yielded amazing image quality on my Herc GF3 thru the DVI port.

I would bet that the 22 inch moniter will display sharper and brighter images than the LCD..
However at the cost of desk space...
Also, LCD is less stressful on your eyes.....if u need to look at it for long periods of time, take the LCD..
I would personally go with the LCD........i really doubt you room/office would look rite if u put a monster 22 inch mon in it..

btw aren't Dell LCD OEM's of Philips?

antrax.. totally disagree. Nothing compares to the sharpness of an LCD with a DVI interface. AG CRTs do have a bit better colors, but a good LCD monitor is fine too. I love my 18.1" Planar LCD with Geforce3 ti200 DVI.

Man I hate the LCD monitor farms at my local Best Buy/Comp USA, they have all these LCD's running some lame advertising video that has crappy images, on top of that they have all these high quality Sony and NEC LCD's and all of them are running analog.(how can you sell a $1200 Sony LCD if your running it on analog instead of DVI, seems rediculous to me.)
