So I bought these suede shoes (normally ~$80, got em on sale for $60) and have been very careful about when I wear them for months. Then, I smartly gave someone a ride without realizing they were sitting on the floor of my car and the genius stepped and got wet mud all over them. It's not bad but they are light gray so it is visible.

I went by a shoe sto' and the guy wanted $20-25. My price was $10-15 and I expected it to be $20. I haven't tried haggling with him yet. My question for the respected ATOT crowd is if it is worth it or if I should juts buy my own cleaning supplies...is it hard to clean suede? I don't plan to own many/any other suede things but 1/3 the price of the shoes seems excessive.

$80 shoes? Wow.. Clearly these are high end. I doubt many here will be able to relate since they could never afford $80 suede shoes. Since you are clearly not a genius yourself leaving your suede shoes on the floor of your car and allowing your dirty friends to ride in it, I'd say pay the man before you do something else to damage these irreplaceable treasures.

Suede shoes are a bitch to clean properly. Also, I might try to haggle on a $100+ item, but certainly not a 25$ service.

Occasionally my job calls for cleaning shoes and I'd never EVER budge on the price. I don't really want to do it for the price I name. I certainly am not doing it for any less.

Hell, if it was me, I'd just clean my own shoes with a stiff-bristle brush, and use the $20 for something else.

My work shoes cost me $180 and my soccer shoes cost me $200 every other year. $60 isn't that much imo.
