Hi,

I'm in the market for a 20-21 inch LCD to replace my aging 21 inch
Trinitron and am unfortunately out of my league. Add to that the lack
of "large LCD" reviews out there and I feel like I'm going in blind
here.

So I'm hoping I can get some recommendations. I'm not a gamer -- I
occasionally play Flight Simlator where things move fairly slow, so I
don't think response time is a major factor for me though it would be
nice not to notice ghosting/etc during normal usage (Internet stuff,
applications, etc). Other than that, I'm not sure what specs are
important. My one concern is resolution -- all the 20+ inch LCD's
seem to be 1600X1200 native, and I'm not sure my eyes will be able to
handle it. Are there any that have a smaller native resolution?

Any words of wisdom will be immensely appreciated.

Thanks,
James

the smaller native resolutions are bad.. they are basically just a 17" LCD stretched to 19-20"...

why not just get another CRT?

I just purchased a Planar PL201M. It has a MaximumPC Kick Ass product award. 1600x1200, 25ms response time, 500:1 contrast ratio. It rocks!

Even though the native resolution of 1600x1200 may seem small, there are applications that can actually change the font/text sizes w/o compromising the visual appeal of the panel.

If you want something a little smaller, the 19" models have native resolutions of 1280x1024. I'm partial to the Planar PX191 in that case.

Go to http://www.monitorsdirect.com and look around a bit. Use the "COMPARE" feature. It's pretyy awesome.

I have a Planar PL201M also; it's a kickass 20" LCD. 1600x1200 on it doesn't seem small to me, but then again, I've been running 1600x1200 on a 17" CRT and 19" CRT for ages. You'd really have to see it in person to see if the text may be too small. If it is, look at a good 19" LCD as those are 1280x1024. The Planar PX191, Dell 1901FP, and the Samsung 192T look to be some of better ones out there.

Kilton, dont forget that a 19" LCD will have about the same, if not larger, vieawable area of your 20" CRT. I recommend the Samsung 191T or Dell 1901FP.
