2 year old Seasonic 380 pwr supply enough for IP35?

I wan to get an Abit IP35-E for my HTPC. I have a Seasonic 380 pwr supply I got about 2 years ago. It is a nice little pwr supply but it only has a 20 pin power out instead of 24. Would I be able to get an adapter and use this pwr supply or will/should I get a new one? The system will only have a low in video card, 2 gigs ram, a HDD, and a DVD drive. Thanks

You're not going to crunch numbers with HTPC. Therefore, the old PSU will be OKAY. NO need for adaptor at 24/8 pin plugs. I have no problem overclocking my IP35-E and E4300 (3.46GHz) with an Antec SP 350.

What proc would depend on if I need to spend another $80 on a good HTPC pwr supply. I might do some post processing with ffdshow but nothing major other than that. I prob could overclock a little but doubt I'll see any real gains since all I do is play music and watch dvds on it. I'll prob get a E4300 or maybe even E2140. Both will be much faster than the skt A system I'm using now.

Now, I just have to see if that rebate on the Abit IP35-e is one per household since I'd like to get one for my main rig as well. Might as to spend a little more and get the IP35 instead. Thanks for the help

Only one per household but you could use a neighbor's address. Abit's rebate is FAST. Got my two $20 Abit WiFi in about 4 to 5 weeks. The E2160 would be best, unless you could locate an E4300 for less than $90.

IP 35-E works with 20/4-pin plugs. IP35 uses a common cooler for NB and MOSFET. This will result in a higher MOSFET temperature. If you don't need RAID, then the $40 price premium of the IP35 would appear to be an overkill.

I might just have it shipped to a friends house and get another IP35-e. I use raid on my current set up and it is nice to have a back up incase a HDD fails but is something I really do not need. The mobo choice is pretty easy for my main computer, picking which proc to get though is not 🙁

These is practically no difference between any C2D running at the same core speed. You'll only see the speed boost with benchmark applications. The quickest C2D CPU runs @ 3.0GHz. Therefore, if you can overclock the E2160 to 3.0GHz, then you're in good shape. If you want a little more performance for a desktop PC, then go with E4300/E4400. These should be able to hit 3.2GHz with a decent $30 CPU cooler.

There aren't may applications that could fully utilize all four cores at this time. Plus the Quads run HOT, so you'll need to spend more $ on a better CPU cooler.
