2 xp pro computers cant see each other

MrDudeMan

Lifer
i just built 2 brand new computers, installed windows, and now we cant browse each others computers.

the network works fine since the old computers were able to browse perfectly.

i ran the xp network config wizard, the workgroups are the same, and i can see my computer name in the network neighborhood, but not the other one and vice versa.

what am i missing here?

other info:

both computers are on SP2 and all of the latest windows updates
i cant ping the other computer from each one, but they can both ping themselves
each one can access the router and the internet

try to access them directly, and if that doesn't work, try to access them via ip

go to start>run>type '\\computername' where you would input the other computers network name.

if it does work, just plug in the IP address isntead

ex: ''\\192.168.1.15"

the problem is the computers dont even see each other. ive seen you post that link before and it is good info...i even looked at it before i posted this thread...but i cant get them to ping each other or anything and ive never run into this problem before.

it should just be plug it in and it works like it always has been. its a linksys router and 2 computers with windows xp - pretty basic stuff!
