2 x PCI Raid cards

my mb is non raid, I have an existing 2 port pci raid running, and I want to add 2x750g drives, on another pci raid card.

My question is will two PCI raid cards bring any hardware of software conflicts

Some cards, like 3ware's, are designed to do this - it is possible to link two 4-port cards and end up with essentially an 8-port card, or for the hardcore, two 24-port cards to get 48 ports.

I'm not sure if cards of different brands will work out... maybe if you had an independent RAID on each card it might, but I can't know if the drivers would mess with each other or if the BIOS would go crazy. You could try asking over at StorageReview also, they probably know better than I.

They won't conflict but you won't be able to join the drives on the second card to the array on the first unless you're using software RAID.

ok great, I was planning on having seperate arrays. 2x250g , and adding 2x750g.

I guess plugging the newer sata II drives into a Sata 1.5g port shouldn't be a problem, aside from running at the lower speed. (Is there much of a difference anyway
