Put some new memory in the laptop and it is only showing half the size. Is there something I could be doing wrong. Pretty simple plug and play.

Thanks in advance for any help

BTW I have a Sony Vaio with a 3Gig pentium with Windows XP

swap them, first.

Then find out the max memory that system will take... realize that all ram is not the same. the older the laptop (especially the mobo and bios design of the laptop) the lower the maximum density the ram can have. Basically, this means the older the lappy the more chips must be on the maximum ram size it can take for it to see it all. I have toshiba TE2000 that can only see its full 1GB capacity (2x512MB sticks) if both sticks are made with low density ram chips (as in have more ram chips on each stick)
