Let me explain.

House is wired.

Dlink router is in main office with the rest of the gear (Dlink DIR-655). Wireless works well when you are in the most of the rooms on the first floor. If you go upstairs or to the far side of the house (about 100+ feet away) reception is nonexistant.

No place to relocate the main router in the house for better reception all over.

What I would like to do it simply add another wireless router upstairs wired to the network.

To make it easy I would to make the SSID and security key the same on each router so that the family doesn't have to worry about what or how to connect.

Will this idea work or do I need to do something else to achieve my goal.

Running wireless G on all laptops.

EDIT - I have tried Draft-N and it didn't help.

EDIT #2 - I also have my old Westell 327W Wireless Router DSL modem. Could I turn this into just a wireless access point upstairs or do I need to get real routers etc.

TIA for your help

When a Wireless Router is used as an Access Point it should be configured like this.

http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

You can use the same SSID and Security but set the Wireless to different channels.

Ch. 1 and 11 would usually be Good.
