Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to:

1. Speed up the initial booting of Win 2K...It takes FOREVER!

2. How do I set it up so that I don't have to log in as administrator EVERY time I start up? I am hoping there is a way to circumvent this without losing Admin access and capabilities?

any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Many possible causes. Is this machine a member of a domain that has no domain controller?

Also, if you're running networking services and have no network active, it can take a long time for the services to time out.

Is there a particular place in the boot process where it seems to stall?

Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

Add AutoAdminLogon (a DWORD) with a value of 1.
Add DefaultPassword (a REG_SZ) with the password.
Make sure that DefaultDomainName and DefaultUserName are correct.

Reboot. Autologon is active.

wow, you rock!!!

That's great info...and fast too!

The hang up on boot seems to be after bios initialization, windows screen comes up and then there is a little progress bar on the bottom of the screen. It takes about 45 seconds to a minute for this to finish it's tasks and actually load windows.

hope that explains it...

The stall is coming from your small 15" monitor. It is the bottleneck in what appears to be a pretty sweet system. ;)

You don't list a network card in your specs, but if you do have a network card installed, and are not connected to a network, that would most likely be the cause of the delay. If that is the case, go into the properties sheet for your network card, and disable the automatic acquisition of an IP address. Instead, set it to something in the 192.168.x.x range, even though you are not on a network. This should keep it from stalling.
