I have a apple airport extreme as my main router with multiple apple airport express throughout the house as wifi extension and for speakers.
I have an ethernet connection from the main router to a linksys wrt54g that I used as a simple switch to hookup game console and dvr.
The reception on my patio is really weak. I have tried to put one airport express close to a window but : 1) don't get good result. 2) always get knocked down since it's on a glass door.
So here's the plan. I was thinking of getting an extension cable for the wrt54g antennas and install them outside to get a better coverage on my patio.
I just have a hard time figuring out how to configure the wrt54g to continue being an ethernet switch, but also act as a wap for the patio. I have a while ago flashed the wrt54g with the ddd-wt, so there seem to be a lot of options there.
I also have one of my airport express hooked up to the wrt54g.
Is there a way to keep that airport express on the main network (indoor), with same kind of ip address (192.168.0.xxx) vs getting one from the wrt54g (192.168.1.xxx). This way I can still access the airport express with the airport utility.
I hope this explanation is clear enough.
Thanks for your help.
