1. Are taking expired multvitamins okay (expired by 1 month now, will be more like 3 months when i finally finish the bottle).

2. my car had the check engine light on when i was using "cheap" gas, now that i put in "brand name" stuff, the light goes off. same octane rating and whatnot. sign of problems to come?

interesting.. maybe its a shoddy gas station that dilutes the gas or something. There have been some nice scams going on with shady stations.

or maybe your car has expensive taste?

1. Yes. The efficacy of some of the vitamins might decrease slightly, but no harmful physical effects.
2. What kind of car? It might have triggered the knock sensor because your car was pinging, or you might have the beginning of a bad O2 sensor.

He meant, "15 to 20 startups after CEL first came on." I'm betting it was a gas cap issue.
