I get half of December off also because of unused vacation days that we must use. My wife used to be able to bank them indefinitely, but same deal there now.

We get 4 weeks a year plus 6 optional days, but we can only go away a week or so with kids, so the rest I don't know what to do with. I'm home everyday anyway.

Same here, I've essentially been full tilt working this year, so stored up a load of holiday I need to take before year end.

I can't wait. Laptop off.... and relax.

I'm gonna take off if it snows. That applies any time. That's my sit in the house by the fire, drink whisky, and watch snow fall day. Not that I *require* snow or a fire to drink whisky, but it makes it 500% better, and it's worth staying home for.

Define break. I get Christmas day off, but depending on what's going on I might work it and just take the hours as pay.

Damn. I have to work morning and night, seven days a week. Even on Christmas, my Muslim and Jewish clients want to meet since it's a free day for them.

Heh, I just took 4 months off for paternity leave time. during that time I continued to accrue vacation time (5 weeks per year) - I came back for ~ 3 days, then went on a 3 week vacation to Europe. Now I'm back and will get a quick refresher for the next 3 weeks before getting an entire week off for company holidays (no vacation needed)... and I still have ~4 weeks of vacation I can use that is going to roll over to next year.

Not remotely jealous. I did the saving up vacation thing once and hated it. Time off around the holidays isn't all that much fun in my area, it's cold and that limits leisure activity. I usually take a week in the summer and use the rest of my time for single Fridays or Mondays. That's a lot of very enjoyable long weekends.

I agree. I like working holiday time that people normally take off because it's quiet and I can get more work done. Taking vacations at weird times is nice because there's usually no crowds.

I work Christmas and NYE this year. :( But it's good $$$! Basically 3 stat holidays. (Christmas, Boxing day and New Year Day).

I'll be on nights though so at least I can still show up for family dinner, gift openings and stuff. Just have to leave early.

I just hope it's quiet. I hate when stuff goes down as it's near impossible to get ahold of anyone who actually wants to go on a trouble... and I don't blame them.

Same, I get Christmas day off, but I have a lot of projects scheduled before & after the day due to being able to take advantage of non-production hours at different companies.

On the flip side, I take my vacations at random non-peak times, so I can go places without it being too crowded. It's a tradeoff though. Regular holiday breaks would be nice for extended family & whatnot.
