Ok i just put together an awesome computer. IT worked exceptionally for around 2 weeks. Now I goto turn on the computer and the blue led in the fans come on for a split second, and show tiny movement. But nothing really happens. The motherboard light stays a solid green the whole time. I tried unplugging the graphic card and then turning it on, unplugging the hard drive and turning it on, etc... still the same result. I'm thinking it could just possibly be a bad power supply. What do you guys think. Thanks a million in advance!

It could be the CPU as well, but im not sure because even when i take off the heatsink on the cpu and take the CPU out of the system, i get the SAME EXACT result..

What system specs, include psu.
Also, have you tried clearing CMOS?
And, tried to start up the system by taking all the headers off the mobo and tripping the start button header with a screwdriver?

It's possible but you didn't happen to screw the board directly into the case, did you? Like having it short out? This "LED light" being on continuously sounds vaguely familar to me (happened to machine I had one time) and ATM I can't really think of the reason for you machine doing it. Check all over the system to be sure everything is plugged in properly, like cables aren't backwards, no short circuiting etc.

Let me try this and i'll get to you guys.. I might need you guys to help me out with stuff such as tripping the start button header and checking for shorts. The computer is as follows:

-XG Dragon CA-DRG-K-B2 Black 1.2mm Aluminum alloy ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W, Active PFC Power Supply
-ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
-ASUS EN7800GTX/2DHTV/256 Geforce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
-AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor
-OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Platinum System Memory
-Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
-SONY Black IDE DVD Burner Model DW-Q30A BK

I will re-post with more information a little later..

To trip the start button...........
Unplug that bunch of wires that go from the case to the mobo header (includes LED hdd, reset, power button - Make a note of that one.)

When you are ready to switch on you computer, press the on button on your case

Nothing happens. Good.
Now, get a screwdriver, hold it by its handle, and gently touch one pin against the other (just for a tiny tiny instant) of the PWR SW or POWER ON or something like that - NOT THE RESET OR RSTSW.
That will mean that you screwdriver is pretending to be the power button as it is now doing exactly what the power button does, ie, connecting those two wires together for an instant to make the circuit that will let the rest of the computer strut its stuff.

Also,
I would definitely get a different psu.
If it was a bargain, it was a piece of crp.
Aim for Tagan480, or Antec, or Enermax etc

I just bought an Antec Smart Power 500W PSU, its still the same problem BUT only when i plug in the 4pin psu connector is the only time the computer shorts out. ANy ideas?

Wow this is really weird, the computer turns on when the 12volt 4pin pci express plug isnt plugged into the motherboard (it still doesn't start up just the fans light up and all the fans spin and there is no like system beep) but when it is plugged in the lights turn on for a split second and it makes a short sound...

Hmmm.. Maybe a mobo short to the case?

Any chance something got behind and is causing a short?

Could be a bad mobo. but I'd remove it from the case and lay on a phonebook etc to test b4 I bought any new components.

i've had a similar problem as you, i was just cleaning my comp fan out and after i put it back it wouldn't turn on.

i got mine to work by like removing the fan and stuff and then putting it back in , and it worked... but the computer is kinda screweed now...

how long has it been down? maybe the power supply is fried.. try just ripping one of oyur old power supplies in from another computer and run it.. if it sitll doesn't run then maybe its not your power supply.. dunno.. man try all you can.. best of luck

Ok did this same result as before. I can get all the fans spinning without the ATX12volt plug plugged into the motherboard but when it is plugged in, it makes like a electric EGH noise (best way i can explain it lol)

it's a SHORT. take out EVERYTHING. put everything back together.

trust me.

it's not your psu, it's not your cpu, it's a SHORT somewhere. best thing to do is rebiuld the whole thing again. you probably have a screw that's shorting out the mobo.

Ok, i tryed unplugging everything, and then putting it back in but i put it back in the case. I will try putting it on a phone book and let you know the results. How sure are you that its a short? I sure hope it is because RMA'ing stuff is a pain in the ass.. haha thanks for your help dude. I'll get back to you

Ok just tryed putting it on newspaper and jumpstarting it using a screw driver. No luck, same results as before. Fans spin when the 12volt plug is out and it shorts out and when the plug is plugged in. So whats the next step? RMA? or is there a way to repair this myself. Thanks again.

If you have tried it barebones, with nothing attached to the mobo except psu, cpu+fan, mobo speaker, and you don't get beeps, then the problem is with one of those items (but not limited to one of those items).

Is there really a possibility that its the CPU? We can't definately say that it is the mobo?

hmm well, because i've seen similar things happen as you were explaining.

but now it seems that you have a bad circuit somewhere in the mobo. maybe a blown cap?

maybe take a very high rez pic of the mobo, and we can probably spot the damage if any. hehe doubt it, but ya, i think it's just a bad mobo now.

i thought it was a short because this happened to someone I knew. Turned out that a small piece of the case was shorting out something in the back of the mobo. Funny thing was, that when we put in the 4-pin power into the mobo, it shorted lol.
that's why i jumped to that conclusions. :)

As for the CPU, the only way to make sure is if you have another similar cpu you can put in there to make sure, or test your cpu on another motherboard.

Also another quick question, i'm looking over the form to fill out the RMA and it says:
Detailed Notes: (500 chars max)
? Please provide Newegg with an adequate description of why you are requesting a return. If the product is defective, briefly recount the problem(s) you experienced. If you are returning an item for any other reason, please supply whatever information you feel may be pertinent. Simple notes help us process your RMA quicker.
? Please make sure your memo notes coincide with the RMA reason chosen in the drop down menu(s) above. Also note that your remarks will not change the RMA type requested nor the procedure our Returns Department follows. Newegg.com does not offer exchanges; we only refund or repair (replace). Please follow all rules outlined for the RMA type you have requested.

I'm not sure what to write for this or does it matter?
