2 systems..i want to run cable to both of them

yes, im a total newb....i have an external cable modem, and a ethernet card in my 1 rig.....i want to now run cable to my other....do i jsut buy an ethernet card and then plug into the modem?

nope,
you can do it two ways"
1. Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with second NIC in your first comp., always running
2. Router inslalled with multiple ports.

...or there's "the other second way" ....

See if your provider will give or sell you another IP address, and use a hub or switch.

Basic options for internet connection sharing

The router option is the best and only costs a little more. Even if you can get a free 2nd ip, a router will give you some added security and doesn't cost too much more than a switch.
