2 servers, one choice

I have currently an Athlon 64 939 pin venice 3000+ riding in a foxconn/winfast geforce 6150 based motherboard, 1gb of ddr. 4 300gb seagate drives in raid 0+1 on the built in nforce raid.

I also have recently aquired a sweet asus a7m266-d dual athlon mp board preinstalled with 2 athlon mp 2000+'s and 1 gb stick of ecc registered memory.

Originally I thought about just selling this dual mp system on ebay but I got to thinking about installing an intel gigabit card (64 bit 66mhz) and 4 port sata raid controller (also 64 bit 66mhz) to use in the 2 existing slots and have a very sweet system.

I basically use the machine to stream 4gb's worth of mp3's and the occasional movie. I just figured maybe I would want to try out a "real" server system.

If this is in the wrong section my apologies, just seemed to be more networking than anything else. THANKS!

Dual Athlon XP/MP systems (yes, you could hack XP's and run them as dualies) were sweet systems, but they were failry rare as servers. Other than the motherboards being expensive, they were essentially just enthusiast boards with a AMD 760MPX northbridge.

While it would make a decent server, your Athlon 3000 will be faster at push/pulling data.

Thanks man, I figured I would just later on drop in an x2 when the prices become reasonable. This brings me to weather or not I should reload windows when that happens, as we all know reloading a server is a pain in the butt setting everything up exactly how we want it.
